I'll just join in the HV discussion ...

My HV came out to visit three weeks after Andrew's birth, despite the fact he was still in NICU. She also attended the discharge planning meeting just before he came home.

Until the week before Christmas, I was under the NICU Outreach Midwives but they have signed us off (woohoo) and we should now be under HV care.

Have I seen her? Heard from her? Have I heck as like.

I went to the clinic last Tuesday (in the snow) for his BCG jab, and left a message asking for the HV to phone me to arrange a visit. Eight days later, no phone call, so still no visit.

Question is - am I bothered? (Bovverred? Me? Me? Bovverred? :rotfl:)

I'm trying to remember everything I wanted to say:

Ladybird - good luck for the interview and I agree with MFD< pls can we see a picture?
sami - please say happy birthday to chris from all his mse Aunties. I hope he has a great day.
susan - tights - we find that M&S are not overly generous with their leg length (LO has long legs compared to rest of her), but ASDA and tesco are fine.

Health visitors - I think they drastically vary in their helpfulness. A lot of them are rather stuck on their own version of 'the rules'. However I found my HV invaluable as have no family close to me and sometimes just having a friendly face at the baby clinic was great. A bit like a knowledgeable aunty. We are lucky having each other on here - often we act like HV should towards other forum members. Support and offering suggestions cannot come from too many places :D

emmm....I can't remember the other things now. oops!

    Have a read through this:
    http://www.llli.org/FAQ/oversupply.html

Can I ask a few things:
How many bottles in 24 hours? How big is each bottle?
How many times do you pump? How much do you get each time?

Do you want to try and get direct feeding working for you both, or would you rather express?

Probably about 5 - 6 bottles of up to 5-6 ozs although he does leave a couple sometimes. Probably pump about 3 times a day getting anything from 5-9ozs at a time off both breasts

To be honest I feel better now expressing and feeding although breastfeed at night if he wakes up as during the day he seems to prefer the bottles during day. He gets quite bad wind with BM rather than formula as well. HV kept saying dont need to wind with BM but I find we do.

Dont think we could go back to direct feeding, I know that sounds bad doesnt it.:embarasse

It is possible to overfeed a baby on bottled breastmilk. A baby needs about 1oz per hour (18-30oz per day). A bottle of more than 4oz is more than they can comfortably have, and means a baby might not be satisfied from a direct feed. Some say this isn't true, but from my research I think the best thing to do is to give smaller bottles and try not to give more than 1oz per hour.

A full supply is considered to be 28-38oz per day. It is recommended that you pump 7-9 times a day until you reach this amount, then you can begin cutting down pumpings, keeping an eye on the output - you'll need to go up again if you find it dips.

A lot of women have oversupply or overactive letdown problems and they can be overcome. It isn't for everyone though. Just know that expressing very hard to do longterm. It is possible (look at our amazing Elle!) if you want to do it though. Even with the problems we've had, direct feeding is still easier.

I found LO needed winding after EBM the whole time he was bottle-fed. Some babies swallow a lot of air wether it bottle, breast or whatever type of milk.

Supply starts to settle down after 6 weeks, and you might notice a decrease in output then - it is hard to maintain a supply with a pump, most women have to pump more often that they bottle feed. I'd advise you to pump at least 6 times a day now, and freeze any extra milk. Whilst babies aren't supposed to increase the amount they have, some (Toby!) do, and it is always good to have a back stock incase LO has a hungry day.

Jillie - Get on the Wii Fit. This is your kick up the backside. <BIG KICK>

I am fed up of trying to dry Holly or change her clothes. She has been dribbling badly for a few weeks now, but this week she is blowing the saliva out with a "doof" noise. The bubbles are getting bigger!

57 mins done on the wii fit!! feel very energetic after doing it all. found a new routine to follow so will see how that goes tomorrow.
got some plastic backed bibs from matalan which are fab. dh says he looks like a dog after being to the vets but i say he's dry and wont get sore skin so :p

Is that like the ironing fairy? And the picking up towels fairy? And the turning lights off fairy?

I heard rumours that they might all be going on strike

the ironing fairy here has gone on strike. DH is ironing his own shirts for work as i cba :D and staying in bed as Kian is having another sleep after he first wakes up so i'm having an extra sleep too.

No - that sounds perfectly fine.

I have a RL mummy friend who bottle feeds EBM and she has no intention of trying to BF. She expresses 10oz at a time, has done since baby was teeny tiny and baby is a happy and well settled child. She is happy expressing and feels that she gets the best of both worlds - the routine of bottles and the benefits of BM.

Being a mummy is a horses for courses game - you do whatever suits you best :D
