My parents can't get their car off the drive, so are walking to me - I hope they get here in time for me to get to my interview! It normally is about an hours walk, but I expect it will take them longer in all the ice. Should be ok getting out here - the main road has been gritted (the advantage of living in a tower block - I can see without leaving my living room!), and the caretakers have put some grit down on the cul-de-sac bit too - lots of cars have been going in and out so I should be ok. Will have to give myself an extra 15 mins to get the ice and snow off the car though!
    ...
Oh - worse than cutting nails - I gave in and cut izzy's fringe the other day. We had been battling with hair clips for a while, but she always takes them out. I wanted to let it grow untl it was long enough to tie back, but I've given in to fringedom - she can grow it out when she is old enough to hate it, just like the rest of us had to ;)
Can you go and collect your parents?

    :rotfl:at fringedom :p

M & E's mum I was wondering before if it's cheaper to be out and about in other warm buildings or a home with the heating on.. I bet Weezl knows :p

Maz - I still need breast pads for my leaky boobs at 7mths pp so don't hold your beath as it may be a while

oh and I'm sure I read that child protection isn't part of a HVs remit obviously if they suspect something they are duty bound to report it but their job is to support and inform parents mostly
The very best is sometimes what nature gives us for free.

Aless Hv probably meant that theres not a lot of point taking them until they are about 6wks because until then they do an awful lot of sleeping so most people prefer to stay at home and get things done rather than sitting in a draughty church hall somewhere while they sleep. However you go for it if you want to theres no reason why not.

I really agreed with Fitzio about HVs, but also weezl made some good points about hidden agendas i think because their role is undefined and a bit 'woolly' and because some of them act like powercrazed battleaxes people are a bit defensive about why they need to visit/be seen (I was).

That said, if I was a HV and someone was dead aganst me with no reason I would want to see them and their child for my own piece of mind.

I will never forget those children who starved to death in their own house in Birmingham, many agencies got it completely wrong in that case one of the things being that their mother never let them be seen by a HV and the HV didn't push it.

Krystal, I am expressing about 7ozs at a time but still seem to fill up again quick and end up leaking....how long before this settles down and I only produce what I need? should I express less ? Hope this makes sense....
Are you still feeding him yourself or just feeding him expressed milk now? I think Elle or Feely would be best to advise you if you're exclusively expressing. If you're just expressing for comfort and feeding him yourself then cutting down on the expressing might help, but it's more a time thing... Your body just needs to settle down a bit and it's only been a short time since he was born (happy 1 month birthday ;)) Like Sami, we're over 7 months and I still need a breastpad on occasion...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Definitely warmer than my freezing house, it was built in 1876 and I think big draughty holes were a design feature then! Trying to sew some shorts for Eloise (cut down old joggers and jeans) but my fingers are too cold!

On health visitors (again), I know that not everyone has good experiences, but I do believe that 99% of them do things for the right reasons. And I don't think they are looking for fault in people either - it would make their lives much simpler if no-one had any problems I am sure! Some people don't like to ask for help though - I find that I have some minor concerns/questions about H, I wouldn't think it was worth bothering a doctor about, or going to see a HV. But if the HV asks if I have any questions, then I would mention it. Also, PND - you might not recognise you are suffering from it or there are aspects of life that you aren't coping with, but they are trained to spot the signs I imagine.

Anyway, I am obviously just in an opinionated mood today. In my work I deal with child protection and criminals, and I am shocked by what some people are capable of. Therefore I am happy to put up with a bit of interference in my life when I have nothing to hide. Some children are not as lucky as mine.

It's not a criticism of anyone so I hope no-one thinks I am having a dig - everyone is entitled to their opinions. I am just quite open about things, but that's my personality.

our heating is 60p an hour if on constant... We have a half hour every 3 hours :)

It's tricky to work it out for other people cos I don't know your gas tariff or boiler efficiency but can't be loads different

we like you bold fitz! I don't think our thread would be nearly so interesting or helpful if we all pretended to have the same opinions, and I really like the diversity :)

Hello and hugs to WM! Hope Alex settles down for you soon. It's hard enough leaving him without extra stress.

My dyson has whined since day one. It does a good job, but I usually try and get DH to do it as it really goes for my ears! Any excuse ha ha.

Happy 1 month birthday to William!

Aless - hope everything is ok with you.

Jillie - Get on the Wii Fit. This is your kick up the backside. <BIG KICK>

I am fed up of trying to dry Holly or change her clothes. She has been dribbling badly for a few weeks now, but this week she is blowing the saliva out with a "doof" noise. The bubbles are getting bigger!
