  • BM - Plastic surgeon?? what have I missed?

AF - Its awful when you hear news like this especially when you have little ones. I went to a funeral yesterday of a 14 yr old girl it was so tragic and all the way through I was thinking I cant wait to get home to my 2. The girls mother took her to A & E on christmas night with pains in her leg but they sent her home said she had a virus. on the 28th dec she was struggling to breathe and an ambulance was called but she later died in hospital - she had a blood clot in her leg which had got into her lungs, I really dont know how her family will cope.

so sorry to hear about your family friend. we have had unexpected losses in our family in the last year and it has been extremely difficult for their immediate families. lots of love and support seems to be the way.

Tara, you posted a link earlier to a cheap bumbo, it won't work and a search of HUKD only shows expired ones for £22.

Can you tell me what to search for.

Oh great, OH is going to love this... seems the way to get Rhys to give in and go to sleep in his swing is to run a bowl of water for washing up! (swing is near the kitchen door) Now what excuse have I got?!

Its fab, I love it and it was :money: Although I'm not loving the road tax of £215, my last car was £35!!!!

We got the trajet, which is the poor mans, non 4WD of that and it's a love-hate relationship. It's big and heavy and a drinker (plus the tax is a nightmare and up in Feb) but in the snow it is good. Nice and heavy on the wheels so its sticks to teh road better. And doesn't slide down hills... yet....

Yeah, started a post then spilled milk on the laptop so wiped it and it posted. :o
  • Hiya... back from town. Lots of shopping to unload (don't worry, it's all boring stuff like cheese and baby wipes. I've not been to the sales!)

I will catch up properly in a bit, but I know AF asked about sleep just before I went out -my diary is here (I've not updated it about last night yet). It doesn't give much detail of what we were doing before, just what I'm changing, so general routine is:

    bath with lots of splashing
feed while doing "this little piggie" and getting dried and dressed (just to make life difficult for Mummy ... she has to let go when I pull her vest over her head though ;) )
back into the living room for a little play with Daddy, and a bit more food depending on how well she has eaten. How long we are in the LR for depends on how sleepy she is by this point. When she is getting tired, night night kiss for Daddy (and anyone else who is visiting!) wave night night and off into her bedroom.

I was then getting her into sleeping bag, turning off the lights and feeding to sleep. Now I am getting her into sleeping bag, a bit more milk, twinkle twinkle (with actions!) then light off and lie down with teddy bear. At the moment we have the matress on the floor, so I am lying down with her and rubbing her back/holding her down (gently! god that makes me sound a horrible mummy!) and shhhhing till she drops off.

Nap time again I was feeding her to sleep. Now I'm trying to separate it a bit, although she does still drift off when feeding, so if she is doing that then I stop the feed and take her into her room. Other than that I just look out for rubbing eyes and grumpiness and we go into her room, close curtains/blinds (if I've actually managed to open them yet ;) ), lie down with bear and blanket and do the back rubbing/shhhing till she goes to sleep. Sometimes it works with nap time, and sometimes we give up and get up again - I need a bit more backbone when it comes to nap time I think ;)

I think a lot of it is about having confidence in yourself that you can do it (and that being persistent will work - it just might take a few hours of being yelled at ;) ), and that you aren't doing anything wrong doing it this way. Izzy is nearly 1 now (next week!), and really doesn't need to be feeding to sleep/feeding in the night, and when she cries at me I can tell it is just temper. It is no bad thing for her to learn that yelling doesn't mean she will get her own way ;)

Oh, one other thing that is helping me - taking a week off! When you have to get up in the morning it is so hard to be persistent - you end up counting the hours sleep you are going to get before you have to drive the car safely, and function like a professional human being rather than a zombie, and you end up thinking in the short term. I've found that because I took the week off, and have been mentally gearing myself up for it, I am much more relaxed and able to be patient and not give up. I don't know if this is an option for you?
