*hugs* to Maz with BF difficulties...

actually, that reminds me a question I wanted to ask...those that BF but do EBM for nights or whatever, at what age did you start and what brand bottles do you use? Finn seems to be going brilliantly so far (touch wood) and I'm in no mega-rush to introduce bottles, but I know DH is keen to at least be able to give 1 bottle at night or something. I know it's too early now, but wondering roughly when would be okay so as not to have the dreaded "nipple confusion" MWs warn about. 1 month? 6 weeks? Ta! (going to get some bags soon to start freezing anyway even if we don't do bottle for a while yet)

I used avent And had no probs with nipple confusion

Not sure about the when question aless, but we use NUK bottles as that's what (teats) the hospital use. We tried TT Closer to Nature as that's what we'd bought (well, got free with the steriliser!) already but Rhys was having none of it. I know a lot of babies have success with CTN ones, but just mentioning NUK as an alternative too. Unfortunately they're not that easy to find in the shops (here anyway, London might be different) and I've had to order everything online.

choppy im half way through sorting out jaydens baby things for the next 5 months but nobody can tell me when certain offers end and it doesnt show on boots  x

Did you see there's an Asda baby event on soon? I know it's not near you, but surely they can't mess up a basic home delivery of baby things, big boxes of nappies and the alike so it might be worth a home delivery this time to stock up

Aless, I was giving EBM (well, Husband was...) while I wasn't home and Molly did fine with the Tommy Tippee closer to nature bottles. No nipple confusion and she was happy enough with them although clearly preferred boobs.

She started associating the bottle with being without Mama and Papa though when Husband was in hospital and my mother was doing the feedings, so now will take the bottle for a bare minimum amount of time so she isn't sooooooooooooooo hungry any more but won't eat enough.

  • Hi Aless. I was advised to wait 6 weeks before feeding ebm using a bottle but after about a week i was sooo tired that we tried a bottle of ebm so my dh could do a late feed whilst i got a bit of kip and that worked really well for us until i got more used to the lack of sleep!! We didnt have any prpbs with nipple / teat confusion. We used CTN TT bottles with the 0-3 month teats but have recently bought the 3 month + teats which seem better as it was taking him ages to finish a bottle and he was getting grouchy, HTH!!

thanks all so far...think I just read some bad reviews of TT CTN so it scared me a bit :p - don't want to mess with a good thing, you know? Though I suppose if I suspected him of preferring a bottle too much, we could always stop giving it for a while 'til he matured more? I just like to hear others' experiences. Definitely don't want to do it just yet, just like to plan ahead (maybe at 3-4 weeks...or play it by ear). Going to bed now but wil lread any further replies in the morning.

    Night aless :)

SM, do nappies work out cheaper on the Boots offer than Asda then? Are you buying now, or just working on the numbers? Don't think I could budget for a whole year.. can barely do it for a month! :o
