*hugs* to Maz with BF difficulties...

actually, that reminds me a question I wanted to ask...those that BF but do EBM for nights or whatever, at what age did you start and what brand bottles do you use? Finn seems to be going brilliantly so far (touch wood) and I'm in no mega-rush to introduce bottles, but I know DH is keen to at least be able to give 1 bottle at night or something. I know it's too early now, but wondering roughly when would be okay so as not to have the dreaded "nipple confusion" MWs warn about. 1 month? 6 weeks? Ta! (going to get some bags soon to start freezing anyway even if we don't do bottle for a while yet)

I am going to be contentious and say that nipple confusion is a myth perpetuated by health professionals to scare BF women away from using bottles (and thereby 'promote' continuing to BF).

I have met literally dozens of RL mummy friends whose babies will not take a bottle because they left it too late to introduce them. I haven't met a single one whose baby preferred the bottle over the boob (although I am sure that there are some...somebody is bound to know one!).

I personally started a bottle of EBM a day (early evening with daddy) from 3 weeks because I was warned at Booby Club that if I didn't I would regret it. Nipple confusion was never an issue (as I said, I think it is a load of bolls) but having said that Benjamin had a good grasp of BF by then.

We used TT CTN bottles FWIW.

As long as you aren't having any problems BF'ing (struggling to latch or taking a long time to latch) I would just go for it.

....you did ask for a rant didn't you ;):D

  • Whilst talking about breastfeeding, Toby is on one of his evening marathons of feeding about every hour to hour and a half max. He is 7 weeks now. I am just going with it as I just keep thinking I am to feed on demand and its not a prob as long as im not making a rod for my own back. In my heart I think I know I am doing the right thing in feeding him when he shows he is hungry, but why do I keep doubting myself!! Maybe he is gonna give me a nice few hours sleep later tonight :)

    Night aless :)

SM, do nappies work out cheaper on the Boots offer than Asda then? Are you buying now, or just working on the numbers? Don't think I could budget for a whole year.. can barely do it for a month! :o

i have a 10% off voucher, £1 x 2 pampers vouchers and 500 points for spending over £55 .. 3 4 2 generally always works for cheaper 3 packs of econmony (sp?) .. 3 packs usually last 2-3 months (150-160 altogether) but i havent worked out all the small details til i have all the numbers .. your head hurting yet? :rotfl:x

im working all this out for 5 months as well :D .. oh and milk on top x
    :)Still searching .....:)

We used a bottle for EBM about a dozen times starting at maybe 10 days-2 weeks old or so, for me to spell OH during the night. Never had any problems at all with it, he was perfectly happy either way, but we stopped purely because OH got into her stride BFing and didn't feel the faff of expressing was worth it for her.
  • Lu, I take no responsibility for you buying a Trunki! :p:D. The cow one went out of stock very quickly!

SM, have you seen the Pampers wipes on boots.com? Pack of 6 sensitive for £3something :T. I have ordered 6 packs to collect in store as my local big one doesn't actually stock the packs.

    xx
  • Oh - I forgot 'Evening Ladies' :D

fattybooboo - just keep ploughing on, they grow out of it, I promise xx
(if you are just questioning then you are doing well, I used to sit and cry about it LOL - although not every night!!)

That'll be Rhys then! :rotfl::rotfl:

In fairness, he did suddenly "get" breastfeeding proper about five weeks after we came home and he'll still do it now, he (and we!) just knows where he is with a bottle, and we know how much he's getting, yadda yadda, so that's what we stick to (for all it's ups and downs!).

SB, I've got three 6-packs to pick up from our Boots on Thursday ;)

    Good evening.

I must admit, I prefer the boob over the bottle, but that's another story.

I owe some replies, so i'm off to do them whilst lovely Lucy makes us a cuppa as we wind down before we go to bed.

Rhys doesn't count :p he is the exceptional child all round :D

He loved the booby more, he told me so ;) but he knows he needs his meds too so he lets you give him a bottle.
