Glad I'm not the only one who remembers when they were seperate Tv listings........
Love the 2 tv's story........ like as a kid we were lucky to have b/w portable in the bedroom, think was about 11 b4 I had a tv in my room, then you had to move the dial to get the TV channel to change... x
Theres dd with flat screen tv ( 15in) but she brought it out of her xmas money 2 yrs ago, and dvd player - when you say black and white tvs.... they look at you as thou you have landed from an alien planet!! xx
I remember the dial up tvs lol. Hubby had one in his room when we were "courting" in the 90s! B&W licences were cheaper lol and as his Mom and Dad had thrown out their tv preferring to read, knit, listen to music and drink whiskey in front of their fire, he had to buy his own.
I didn't get a tv in my room till I was working and bought it myself!!!! We have bought our 2 TVs for their rooms this year for Christmas, a promise made a while back, but they haven't had a tv for their use for months now and its been nice having them around us more - tho sometimes I wish they weren't as the ask questions all thru programmes that demand my attention!!! I am hoping that the tvs don't make them into little hermits from the 25th onwards!!! -Donna
Economy; careful management; providence. Whether you call it thrifty or frugality it all comes down to getting more for your money.0 -
Real Toothfairy - I live with depression too so can relate to what you are saying. Mine is due a lot to the pain I am always in with my arms and shoulders. Hope the doctor can help you. I find making lists such a help, I keep two notebooks in my bag all the time now with lists in. My short term memory is quite bad too which is a symptom from the hypothyroidism so I would completely forget to do things if I didnt have constant reminders. With the sewing, just do a little bit when you feel like it, I find it very therapuetic (spelling?) when I am down to just sit with my basket full of bits and pieces and work my way through so might help you. If not put it away for a while and then take it out again when you feel a bit better.
We managed to get up town yesterday, I was clinging onto OH's arm so I didnt fall over, I am really scared of going out in this kind of weather. We got home and had lunch them got the tree down and put that up. OH did most of the work, I sat and sorted out the parts of the tree and fluffed them out if you know what I mean and he put it together, then I sorted out the decs and he hung them on. I was so tired after that trip out I couldnt have stood up to do it all.
Looks lovely in there now, we bought some of those red berry lights and I am really pleased with them.
We have had loads more snow overnight and it is still snowing now and supposed to be all day too. Youngest daughter was in a strop earlier when she realised we probably wont get to the orthodontist tomorrow as OH cant get the car out. She was supposed to have her brace off tomorrow. I will have to ring them a bit later when they open (if they open) and see what they say but dreading it as they dont usually rebook you for 3 or 4 months. Her brace is actually broken and we went a few weeks ago and the woman said leave it on for now as we are taking it off on the 3rd, so may be they will fit her in a bit sooner.
Its so dark in here, like night time. wouldnt think it was 8.30 in the morning. OH wont get into work tomorrow night so will have an extra day off. Hopefully it will start to shift on Saturday. Keep warm everbody, Rufus xxx0 -
It was dark here too Rufus but I just found out why.........its hammering down with snow!

The weird thing is I use to be so quiet, only really after being on crutches, that I became assertive - or as daddy darling!! says a pain in the rear!!!
Def give you shout re stamps, - they do say licking stamps burns calories..... !! xx
I think that's wrong mum2one - when I was at weight watchers, we were told the glue on the back of the stamp was 50 calories. I get DD to stick out her tongue and they get moistened that way. Thank goodness they are self adhesive now.I :heartpuls M.S.E.Mortgage Free 18/01/10 13 years and 8 months early on a 20 year mortgage!

Pipsmum - I had to giggle at those photos. I'm sure I have one or two like that, of my dd's. DD2 even refused to have her photo taken last year. The year before though, I have such a lovely photo of DD2 and my neice with Santa at Disney land. Brrr. I was so so cold and we had to wait three hours in the snow (outside) to meet him. It was lovely though - there was none of this in, photo, pressie and you're out, we were in there a while, which probably accounted for the queues. Within a couple of hours DD fell ill. We were there 4 nights and only went on one ride.I :heartpuls M.S.E.

Stamps – my Dad often buys the bags of used stamps from charity shops and car boots. It’s just a food bag full of stamps people have torn off the corner of envelopes. He sorts through those and there is an amazing amount that hasn’t been franked at the sorting office. He paid £4 for his last bag and got over £70 worth of unused stamps out of it! Definitely worth a try as he has never made less in stamps than he paid for the bag.
CDsmiler – I agree with everyone else, I’m sure your daughter will be fine. Sounds like she just needs to rest a bit while she gets over it.
Junior_J – I hope your friend is okay, you’ll be helping a huge deal by visiting her and keeping her entertained. Those Tomy eggs are great, DS had some when he was little.
Pipsmum – We took DS to see Santa last weekend, he was really excited until he saw him, then he kept backing away. It was only when Santa gave him some extra chocolate (when he found out it was DS’s birthday) that he won him around and he posed for a photo – no smile though!
Ideas needed please – My husband and I set each other a budget for our own Christmas presents each year. He has asked for a big computer table thing that has taken all but £15 of his budget. He wants to set up the table this weekend, so it’s not like he’ll even be able to open it on Christmas day. I’m worried that he’ll not have much to open on Christmas day so I need some very cheap/free ideas for things I can make him so he has more under the tree. I’ve already used £10 of the budget to buy him some little presents so he has a bit but not enough. Any ideas very gratefully received, and the more the merrier!Making money for Christmas 2012!0 -
How about a quick vistaprint order and do him a calendar of your DS to hang over his desk? Mary would say a pint of socks. Something small in a cracker? Fill a jar with his favourite sweets. Flavoured vodka (only takes a week). Homemade fudge. etc. last year I made my step dad some alternative after eights. Melt a bar of dark choc, add a tube of crushed extra strong mints (better put them in a blender until powder, not bash them with a rolling pin, like I did, bits were going everywhere. LOL. spread out on a tray until cooled, put in fridge so it gets so cold it's brittle, and then the fun bit, bash it into bitesize chunks. Everyone loved it!
If I think of anything else I'll let you know.I :heartpuls M.S.E.Mortgage Free 18/01/10 13 years and 8 months early on a 20 year mortgage!

Morning!
My morning was a tad amusing..
Was laying in bed just before 7am , had phoned my manager to let her know I was unable to come in due to the snow. I suddenly heard my dad call my mum from the bathroom saying I am stuck. I carried on listening (to warm and cosy to investigate) then heard the words..key..snapped..locked lol. So i got up and looked and sure enough he was locked in the bathroom with the key snapped off. So me mum and brother were kicking in the door till we finally got him out lol. He Luckily he took a coffee into the bathroom with him and I keep magazines in there for when I have long bubble baths lol.
The snow is very thick outside and my door stupidly drove to work in it , being his own boss he shouldn't of gone his company can run without him but never mind.. men hate change.. xNanMias - cyber granddaughter!

Blimey Junior, what a scrape to get into for your Dad.
I have done a bit of sewing this morning on daughters blouse. Just the button bands and collar to go on but it was getting too cold up there. OH had checked the electric and said I was using too much having the heater on high so will leave it until the weekend when it might be a bit warmer.
Youngest daughter has gone out in the snow, rather her than me, its about 8 inches deep out there, may be deeper in places. Still snowing now. Trying to warm myself up, have my electric throw over me and going to snuggle up and watch a film. Rufus xx0
