    Hi Guys
This isn't a christmas question but as the board is for Occassions 2010 too I hope you can help me (and frankly I don't know where else to look).

I am a student nurse on a placement and next Wednesday is my last day. I want to send them a Thank You - I always do after every placement for all the help and knowledge they have given me. I send a card but I also want to give the girls a present, one that they can all share, but I don't really want to give them a tin of chocs: a) because everyone does that and b) cos they already have loads to put in the Christmas raffle and I don't want to spend loads (cos I am a poor student and that wouldn't me very MSE would it lol)

So has anyone got any suggestions what I can cobble together for them.

I am going to put together some snowman soup mugs for their raffle, because I like them and the patients I have met.

    Thanks in advance!! :j

    Hi all

Sugarspun, for someone new to the thread, that could sound as though you are about to give birth in 3 mins! :)

Not unless there is something VERY IMPORTANT I am missing :rotfl:

My contract ends on Sunday, but since I am a M-F 8-4 worker I am officially free.

  • Hello everyone

I have had a very stressful day trying to get Take That tickets online... Managed to get some finally so I am very pleased, only problem is I have to wait until July next year for the concert!

Done nothing Christmas related for ages but planning a trip to Dunelm tomorrow to get some bits and pieces, I know it might sound a bit sad, but I love it in there!! Am going to go while OH is at the football so I don't have anyone hurrying me :)

Going to order a few bits online for my dad and stepmum next week then I am mostly done apart from OH. Still putting some thought into that one.

Sounds like everyone has been busy, hope you're all having a lovely day.

    :)
  • I hope it's not off-topic (if it is slap my wrists and make me clear out the reindeer shed) but we're moving to make the Christmas pud shortly, preferably before Stir Up Sunday. We've always used Delia's recipe up to now but I was wondering if anyone could recommend anything different?

I'm quite prepared to lash out on a new cookbook (largely because I found a website - http://www.christmascookbooks.co.uk - which seems to offer low prices and my weakness is buying books) but I'd like to know if anyone has something they'd recommend. Doesn't have to be a 'celebrity' cook - or even a well known one - it just needs to be a recipe that works well and delivers a pudding that isn't going to be consigned to the bin after everyone has had an obligatory teaspoonful.
  • Hi All,

I usually just lurk on the boards to get inspiration but I need a bit of help.

My brother and his wife live in London and I live in Yorkshire - they are planning on moving up some time soon .... I was thinking of doing them a Yorkshire Hamper for Christmas - Any ideas?

I can only think of Yorkshire Pudding and I don't think that would travel very well :rotfl: So any help would be appreciated. I have about £30 budget but I don't mind making things too.

    Thanks in advance.

Have you thought of putting in some Yorkshire Tea as well as maybe some malt loaf and parkin, I think they're are from Yorkshire, apart from that you could do them a general hamper for either emergancy stuff for the day of their move or nice things for their new home.

Been to toys r us today and got may daughters birthday present as well as a couple of bits for christmas. I was pleased to find Debenhams had 20% off because I couldn't get the printer working this morning for the £5 voucher but saved that anyway on the couple of bits I got, mainly two Britains got talent buzzers for my son who loves the show and also one for my daughter who will just try to take his if she doesn't have her own- wonder what we'll be doing on christmas day!

Love the photos of the things you've been making susan42 - I bought some large glass jars with screw on lids from Asda for £1 and filled with about £3 worth of sweets, saw similar things in Debenhams today for between £8 and £16.50 so quite pleased with my money saving.:j

Alwaysthebusybee - as you live in Yorkshire what do you have local. You can get Yorkshire Tea from Tescos etc, Yorkshire pudding mix (that you add water to), what else do you have? Barm cakes, eccles cake? Not sure, never was any good at geography!!! Sorry wasn't much help was I! LOL Now if they were moving to Birmingham I'd have told you .......... Balti. LOL Anyway, welcome to the thread.

Hiya Diddly and Philthebear - Welcome to you both too.

Diddly - I've been trying to get my thinking cap on, How about of pot of gold each? I know it contains chocolate or toffees but you only need to put a couple of each in. Look more expensive than they are when tied up with cello and some gold ribbon. I'm sure they will be really pleased by the fact that you made them especially. Anyone can get a box of chocs, but these have a bit more thought and effort behind them. I bought some star shaped bowls from Sainsburys yesterday for mine. They look lovely £1.49 for four - but you could use a disposable plastic cup sprayed gold or anything really.

Philthebear - I've never made my own pud, sorry I can't recommend one. I made my first Christmas cake this year though. I used Nigella's recipe. I fact everything I've made this year that I've never made before, chilli jam and chutney included - have all been Nigellas. My vote would be use hers, as everything I've made is wonderful. If I do say so myself *blushes*.

Susan - I was only joking too. You old wrinklie!

Cookiecrumbs - congrats on getting your tickets. I was never into take that, but I must admit, I'd have liked to have gone, but have no-one to go with! Everybody say Ahhhhhhh.

Sugarspun - FREEDOM. You can be like me and sit on here all day. You think I'm joking - It's addictive!!!!

Abandonz and Dramarama - big hugs to you both. I suffer with my teeth too - falling to bits I am.

CDS - Argghh. I never thought of the glitter disolving. If toffees dissolve, it wouldn't take long for a bit of glitter! - I just thought it sounded nice.

Anglea - I hope you are well. You're not posting much these days. Hugs to you too.

Rufus - what are you up to? How's your quilts coming on? I thought of you this morning - I was looking at school uniform on Debenhams (you just made DD a new blouse, did she like it?) The uniform is about 70% off, so bought DD2 some more trousers £2.55 delivered instead of £16.

Mary - Your magnet came yesterday. I left a message to ask you to pm me, but you couldn't have got it. Could you send me your address please, and I'll get it in the post first thing in the morning.

I think that's it...... If I'm not on over the weekend, or you are not on, have a lovely weekend everyone. Take care xxx
