You need Wilkinsons for cheap Decorations. It'll be next month though.

Welcome to the thread beachlou. Where did you used to live?

Thanks, will start next month then. We've moved back from Australia. Xmas was a bit strange last year in the heat and we had just arrived, so ended up at a friends where they had a curry in the garden. Can't wait to get back to having a 'proper' christmas. We will also have our new son then, so it'll be extra special!

Does anyone make their own decorations? Any ideas?

We used to when we were kids. Mum was on her own with no money then.

Paper chains were effective. We also used to make streamers with crepe paper.

Cut out long lengths about two inches wide. Place on flat surface. One horizontally, and the other edge to edge but vertically. Fold one over the other until you run out of paper. What you end up with is a little fat square of paper. fasten each end. Then pull (like an accordian). It makes a fancy chain thing. You may need to google better instructions or look on You tube.

They may sound naff - but you could always say you are going for a retro theme!

Sorry for being nosy! Why only a few months in Australia?

Paper chains-forgot about those! I'm a primary school teacher, so really should've thought about it!

We spent 8 months in Oz altogether but when I became pregnant we decided we wanted to settle in the UK rather than in Oz, so came home to be closer to family.

Evening everyone, I have been making digital scrap book pages for my bro's dvd for xmas. Also went out today and managed to get a pack of dvd cases for £1, think there are either 5 or 8 in the pack, so plenty as I only need three. OH's Mum wants me to print out some photos for her and is buying some printer ink to do them with so hoping I will be able to print out some sneaky covers while I am doing them.

Bought some more stationery bits and pieces like envelopes and highlighter pens while out. Doing one of my sister's a stationery hamper for Xmas and also want to do my ExMil a box with note paper, envelopes, stamps etc in it. Need to find a nice box thats not too big that I can use to put it all in, preferably with lid so I can cover it for her. Poundland had some bits in there today 2 for £1 so only spent about £5 altogether and got quite a bit more.

    Hello all :j

mum2one - so far I've got three pill bottles and a pot I had something from the health food shop so I'll have to make do with those. Only other things are the packets I get my tablets in but they'd take a bit of filling -boxes are always much bigger than they need be. Mind you they're good for covering and using as gift boxes.

Went into town today and had a quick look round charity shops........not a great deal to be had but did get a set of bath stuff with a teddy included and all boxed up and unused..........sealed reindeer shower gel, smart chrome credit card holder, trendy make up bag for grandaughter, wash mitts (unused) and a necklace and matching bracelet that'll do for grandaughter........its all done like a lot of key rings looped together - quite trendy I thought.

Tried to get what I needed from the craft shop so I could finish off scrapbooks and finally put them to bed..........choice of embellishments wasn't good but I managed to get some.
Then thought I'd have a change and paint a little set of drawers dad made (really small-two knobs missing and they're about as big as drawing pins to give idea of the size). OH freaked out at the idea of painting it  Said to leave it as Dad had done it.......quick polish over would liven it up (he says -we wait with baited breath.............lol) Another little project out the window...............lol:rotfl:
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Good ideas Mum2one, thanks, thinking about it they could be presented in anything really couldn't they?

Any ideas for tablets anybody.... I was thinking of (pretend) Christmas Eve Magic Pills to help Children go to sleep on Christmas Eve and Stressed out Mum Pills to be taken with a large glass of wine!!!!

My concern is that one day they might come across some real pills in bottles or even just bags of pills and believe they are also sweets. It often seems to happen on those medical dramas.

I thought this to, I would never do pretend tablets for kids, it's just not necessary.
  • Hi,

Just starting to think about Christmas and I found this forum - have a lot of reading to catch up!

Regarding the pill bottles I haven't found if anyone suggested this - but try asking at the boots pharmacy counter. When I worked there years ago we would sell them cheaply. Don't know if they still do or what they would cost but worth asking if you were near one.
