leave your sanity & credit cards at the door & climb aboard for a one way ride to Thrifty Town :rotfl:

    It's the 2010 Crazier than a Crab £100 Clothes Challenge :j

    The rules are :

You pledge not to spend more than £100 on home clothes for yourself during 2010. If you wish to budget for your OHs or children then that's great & please feel free to update your spends on this thread but due to my own time constraints I will only be noting & updating totals for challengers, not the rest of the family.

I will update totals as often as possible but please would you post any updates in large/bold/coloured font so that it's more easily visible when reading through all the posts, thank you :D

Home clothes are defined as items that you specifically buy to wear in your own time.

    Qualifying items are :

Tops, shorts, skirts, trousers, jeans, leggings, jumpers, cardies, tunics, dresses, blouses, shirts, hoodies, fleeces, waiscoats & little non essential jackets.

    Non qualifying items are :

Lingerie, essential coats, socks, stockings, tights, swimwear, scarves, gloves & of course shoes & bags - They are accessories which is a whole different kind of challenge which I am not playing at :p

Total respect to those who's £100 includes all the above, I'll be trying my hardest too ;)

I need different clothes for work as do many others, but I dont think I can suggest a figure for anyone else's spending as it's so varied depending on what job you have. I am setting my own work clothes budget at £100 & will declare my spending on here but this is essentially the £100 home clothes challenge so I will only tell you off for home clothes extravagances :naughty:

Any gift vouchers or money received does not count within the £100 allowance & you may also boost your budget by selling / ebaying unwanted clothes items ...

However, as the reason for creating this challenge is in order to spend less money on clothes so that more money can be paid off the CC debt, then I would suggest that anyone with debts who makes any extra money from selling should use that extra money towards debt repayment.

I think that covers it so all you need to do now is sign away your sanity & join up .... I know you're scared & shy so I'll go first :

I've spent £6 on a top today, a lovely black and white striped number. Nice and fresh for spring, should look good at interview, will wash and wash until it falls to pieces and then I will make slippers out of the fabric. ;)

    Personal pronouns are they/them/their, please.

I'm intolerant of wheat, citrus, grapes, grape products and dried vine fruits, tomato, and beetroot, and I am also somewhat caffeine sensitive.

Even though it's not clothing I have been in and looked at the same handbag FOUR times. I am still resisting though as I've just done a basic sewing machine course and when I came home I signed up for the altering clothes one so hopefully, in the long term, I can save money and change the clothes I have. I cannot afford this and a handbag. :D

Well done for starting sewing Knitty, I may have saved on buying clothes but I now just buy fabric :o

I need some good strong non clothes buying vibes please! Going through a stressful time at work (anyone who works for the NHS may understand!!) and I'm feeling particularly weak as I would buy clothes to make me feel better, haven't seen anything in particular I just have the need to buy and buy anything - not good :(

    Hi all,

Have just joined the use it or lose it thread and hoping this will help with the clothes too! No new spends and in the last two days, have worn to work, my lovely black Oasis skirt (got in the sale last year and bought 2 cos knew I'd wear it to death) with a cream and black top, couldn't find my thin cream cardi so wore a chunkier one and chucked a black belt round it, looked surprisingly nice and today, the same skirt with a black shirt and my now found thin cream cardi and jazzed it up with a pearl necklace, earrings and bangles which I bought for this purpose. I've realised why people are 'shopping' in their own wardrobes, it's great.

Oh and yeah shopping is addictive but I am in rehab just now!

Don't do it sarahangel! Then again I was like that today with chocolate, did I eat any, you're flipping right I did! Eat some chocolate, gives you the same buzz as shopping!
  • Hi Everyone! Haven't checked in in a while! I still haven't bought anything, so that is good! :) Well Done everyone and keep up the great work :)
