I'm a single guy and so I've managed to survive this year on clothes I bought in previous years. So, total spend on clothes since 1.1.10 = nil. £0.00 - it can be done. I guess if you've got growing kids it might be impossible for for adults it's perfectly possible to go from one year to the next without spending anything on clothes.
well it is possible.....but where's the fun in that????????:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

just bought a skirt,2 Tshirts and 2 cardis.....I am sooooo wicked, only saving grace is they were all greatly reduced:):):)

did resist turquoise linen pants down from £65 to £15 as hope to lose weight and they were a tad large to put away till next summer

Clearly not the challenge for you then :rotfl:!

For the rest of us crazies it really is a challenge - with things wearing out (my black jeans are distinctly grey), weight being put on (last year when began challenge) and lost again (this year), with things being lost (r.i.p. cashmere sleeveless cardi)... oh, and the fact I love clothes and love to look gorgeous and stylish! I get bored with the same thing day in day out. And if it only takes me £8 a month to have a wardrobe I am thrilled to bits with and excited about wearing to any occasion - it is money well spent in my opinion :D

  • Hello everybody!

I have been waaaaay out the loop for some months. And looking back over my last post (wince) in an effort to work out how much I'd declared, you can tell I was about to come off the wagon!

So what have I been spending on in the past few months:

Jersey maxi skirt from Topshop, £32, bit much but I loooove it, worn it a lot.

Solid sequined black dress from French Connection, £45 buuuut in the sale reduced from . . . wait for it . . . £240!! Saw it last Christmas and was my ultimate party dress, but no way, even in my pre-LBM days, I could have justified that. Walked in a week before my birthday and there it was, last in the shop, in my size. Some things in fashion are meant to be *sigh*

Where was I . . . oh yes, I bought a vintage arran style cable knit cardi for £12 on the weekend. Will be very warm and cozy for the winter on low heating!

And I think that is it actually. Since I'm not counting work clothes. (Might attempt that one next year, we'll see)

So new additions of £89, to existing total of £66.45, makes bust :( Or £155.45 in old money. Even counting my ebay sales giving me a bit extra on the £100. So I'm down about £20.

Down but not out. I will see what else I have to eBay at the moment, and see if I can at least break even! I don't think I have any clothing needs for the moment (I should hope not!)

    Keep going everyone else.

  • Eeeek I'm not sure I'm gonna make this challenge - even though I was very generous with my budget :o since my last post I have bought running trainers £40 (not counted tho luckily!) a jumper £15.99, a top/dress £13 and yesterday some running trousers £7.99 making my total £184.37. The reason I don't think I'm gonna make it is while I have been throwing all of money to debts & buying second hand clothes, all of my clothes now look really tatty. May have to spend some time thinking about what I can buy to maixmise outfits out of what I already have, and selling some stuff too....

I have also bought a new pair of boots from ebay for £25 again not counted - phew!

  • After posting last night I remembered a new pair of jeans I bought on eBay. So that's another £8.99.

And I miss guessed, so I have £40 to raise to get into the black. It's free insertions all weekend on eBay, so I know what I'm doing this weekend! :p

    Hey you fabulous bargainistas :D

HAPPY HAPPY NEW CLOTHES to all that have them :j & yet again, that includes me & I am now clothes challenged bankrupt, oh dear.

I kind of knew it was going to happen really; I still have a stone to lose & when I went to pull up my black jeans a while ago the belt loop ripped :o Decided that I might as well buy a pair in the next size up rather than feel frumpy.

Off to ebay I went & won a fab almost brand new pair of river island ones for £23.50. Had to pop in to town to buy bits for DDs birthday & saw a lovely heathery purple tunic jumper with ruffles at the neck - perfect with the new jeans or leggings & just £5 :D, It had buttons down the front but I didnt like them so snipped those off & will reuse on something else as a contrast detail ;).

I've been hankering after some heeled hiking boots & have been off work with a bad back for a couple of days so when the Dotty P 20% off sale appeared, I rushed through quidco to grab a pair & 4 tops fell into my virtual basket on the way to the checkout but at a cost of just £18, they were definitely worth it. I usually find their cotton tops very good quality & they'll be perfect for layering under cardi's & are replacing the cheap & now worn out primarni ones I bought last year.

I may as well confess to spending another £10 on a couple of tops from New Look as well :o

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, I am utter rubbish at this as my total is now a lot over - will have to add up in a minute.

I've been thinking about this challenge a lot & whether I should/ could do it again next year ... I believe that for me, it would work best if I give myself a monthly allowance for everything clothes/shoes/accessories/undies etc rather than trying to stick to a very small budget for cetain items & then spending 3 x that amount on everything else.

I should be debt free by April :) next year, but will still need to exercise some control over my spending & think a public budget & confessional might be the way forward.

Any thoughts from those who might want to play again next year would be welcome.

Sea_jay - I totally agree with your comments about how it is possible for an adult ( bar large increases or decreases in size/weight for whatever reason) to not buy any new clothes for a year.

It is also possible for me to wear a different outfit every day for about 3 weeks before I have to do any washing. That doesnt however, mean that I should ;).

The original £100 clothes challenge was created to help me & anyoe else who wanted to join up, to cut down on our clothes spending in order to reduce our debts, save up for other things or just stop wasting resources.

I am the first to admit that I am by no means the best at this challenge, in fact I am probably one of the worst as I tend to buy shoes to fulfil my 'new stuff' craving :o.

Although I am now bust, I have thought hard about each purchase I made. Many are pre-owned, either through charity shops or ebay & I regularly donate unwanted items to various charities. One of my favourite buys this year is a magenta pink knee length cotton skirt with a white pattern on it that cost me 99p from ebay. I love it & each time I wear it I got compliments & that makes me feel good, especially knowing just how little I paid for it :D.

Thank you so much for playing along to Souk08, niccatw -absolutely to matching up the fabulousness of shoes & frocks :D& karmachilovething - your sequin dress sounds gorgeous & what a fab bargain :j

I will head off to update the front page now & my shame will be a public & shining example of how not to behave :rotfl:& to all who are still doing so well - keep going :A

    bye for now

    xx
  • ah Lula what a lovely thoughtful post :A Am feeling jubilant as tried on running trousers and although they are a bargain they don't fit properly so I will be returning :) so my actual total is £176.38 so not too bad! Going to iron a shirt dress, I haven't worn for a year as I could be bothered to iron it :o, for work tomorrow. I'm also going to sew up a hole in a jumper & handwash 2 cardigans... I can do this! ;)

  • Just checked out the first page and it makes for interesting reading! Lula are you thinking of analysing the results in Dec & giving out awards? I can think of several: 1st/2nd/3rd in sticking to target, gold for no spends, gold for most resourceful, gold for biggest bust just off of the top of my head!

Not been on here for ages, as well and truly blew the budget, I'm with you Lula on the shoes, I have bought 6 pairs of shoes and 1 pair of boots in the last two months - oh the shame!

I too should be debt free around March/April next year and I have a wedding/cruise and house to save for so I am very determined to start again come the new year, but thinking my budget will be £240 (or £20 per month) for EVERYTHING! £100 is just to little for me, although I can go months without buying then go mad and spend loads in one month.

P.S. Two pairs of shoes I am getting for Xmas though, so not that bad!
