debbiedeejay wrote: »rosemary54 - aww you got to stay with us - yes you were lured into East and spent money (but the clothes do sound fab-very classy & great material choice!)but as you said this challenge has helped so many for the first time to really look at their shopping for clothes habits - and to control them!
So stick with us - When you went shopping that day have you thought how you felt? What I mean is did you go with the intention of having to find new holiday clothes or because of the 20% off coupon lured you in or were you just feeling fed up?
Sometimes if we have had a "bad" day/week we buy new clothes to lift our spirits or we just panic because something important is on the horizon (in your case holiday) and feel that the clothes we already we own may not live upto that new experience-
day off work today - so off to hunt out those teal shoes I have stashed away and one of the cream pashmina types throws/cover up. Need to check label to see if I can dye it first and then am off to see if I can find a matching dye.

I must confess I went with the intention of being wicked:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I love East but never ever buy their stuff full price.
there is usually a 20% coupon in a mag in spring so I look out for it.I love their linen shruggs(at my age a little coverage is great for the bingo wings:rotfl:)I will take 3 or 4 of the items on holiday in May depends what colour scheme I end up going with.
OH and I share a case as soooo expensive now so need a mix and match plan to get my clothes within 10 kilos.
sounds like I am trying too hard to justify spend but they are classic items I will wear for years and also East stick with same colours so I know I can match stuff with things in wardrobe and future buys:)
the shoes were a bonus as my feet are a nightmare to buy for(feel like 1 of the ugly sisters in most shoe shops:eek:
wore 1 of my new shrugs out to dinner with oH last night, asked him if he liked it and he said you showed it to me last month....no that was a jade green one from Wallis, this is lime green from East....keep up dear!!!!0 -
Hi all
just popped on to declare a spend of £24 on two pairs of cargo style trousers from M&S. Got a beige pair and a slate grey colour and they are sooo comfy.
looked at loads of other things but decided I just didn't need them.0 -
Hi everyone, well not done too well on this challenge have I! Just added up my spends and I'm down to £33 out of £120 which means I have spent a colossal £87 already BUT this is way less than I normally would have spent. I seem to not buy clothes for ages then buy loads at once but maybe only a couple of times a year, just before Summer and just before Winter. OH said I would fail this challenge and think he will be right but it will be interesting to see what the final amount is, if it's less than £200 I'll be happy!
I did take back a pair of gladiator heels (£15) which were not comfy in the least and jeans (£16) which were hideous on me, replaced them with sale jeans for £8, I'm learning (slowly)!
Well done everyone else.0 -

When I have been on holiday in the past (not had one for a couple of years) I only took a rucksack (school sized ones). I have had the same holiday wardrobe for I think past 7 or 8 years and I only wear the stuff on holiday rarely at home. Again it works round colour co-ordination and depending on where I was going but I had a choice of following(bearing in mind it was either South England , France,Italy or Holland for no more than a week)
Took either 1 skirt (my black flippy ditsy pink flower or brown surfer(travellers) one)
2 cami tops (black and cream)
1 of choice of 2 very thin Monsoon short sleeve blouses(powder pink or pink self stripe)
1 strappy sandal (gold gladiator or black toe strap both flats)
1 bikini
1 swimsuit
1 pair cargos(turn into shorts) black or brown
1 coverup for beach
2 bras
3 knickers
1 cardi /long sleeve top
couple of slinky scarves & plenty of upto date costume jewerelly
I wear jeans,t-shirt,some kind of sweatshirt or top plus light jacket in colours that go with rest of stuff and trainers(so one pair of soxs! too) oh and I don't take toiletries either -just any medication & a bit of makeup/cleansers etc
Took me a couple of years to trust myself that I could do it - but with handwashing I can manage it.
And my three teenager daughters can do it too -as I always made them do it - they know no different! Shame they can't do it at home though:cool:
Even brought a few bits of new clothing home with me on a couple of occasions- just roll up tight stuff and pack it in or wear it back. Even done the trick of putting stuff in freezer zippy bags and using straw to suck out air to get more stuff in - even took the straw on holiday!:rotfl:

Yikes, not time to catch up properly, friend about to arrive...BlimusOreilly wrote: »This is harder than I thought!
I hardly ever buy new clothes so I thought this challenge would be a breeze. But so many of my clothes are very old and starting to look it and I really am going to need to replace some basics this year. Also, my underwear and bras are in shocking states and they will need replacing too. And to top it all off I am finally losing weight and have already had to buy some new jeans in a smaller size as my current jeans kept falling down and were baggy and horrid! The weight loss is a good thing, I know, but it's not going to help with the challenge.
So another £24 for a pair of jeans and a pair of linen trousers from M&S have been added to my sig.
But Blimus, just wanted to say I'm sure Lula would understand if you needed a weight loss budget alongside your clothes budget! We don't want to be getting in the way of all your good work! Well done :T

I know where you're coming from Souk08 - it seems highly improbable but when I went on hol last year, even Shoe Gal told me that 7 pairs was too many for 10 days. Not all my clothes are the same colour & I do like to coordinate & yes I did have 4 bags too .
I probably should have shared a case with DD, but I happily paid £7 each so I could take whatever I wanted ... that was in the days before my serious  & I am now a reformed character.
Happy New Clothes to all that have them & Blimus if you're doing well losing weight then you can certainly have an extra allowance.
Hmmmm, that reminds me, I'm meant to be losing weight so I can fit back into all my clothes again ...
Spent all day walking round Chessington & tomorrow I get back on the bike, wish me luck ... _pale_
Off to update totals,
bye for now

Thanks niccatw and Lula for your understanding. I shall carry on with the original plan. Now that car boot season is on I am bound to find things much cheaper - in fact, I have to update my sig as I spent £1 on a lovely embroidered skirt today and another £1 on a lovely top at a car boot this morning.:jDFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt
