My new clothes came today from bargain crazy four skirts and a top and they are lovely really good quality wasnt expecting much but i thought they would do me around the house but they are too good for that best 5p i ever spent i just wish i could get more.
That's brilliant, raven, you can't buy anything for 5p nowadays :T
Just a tip to you all. Most winters My big toe goes through thick tights usually by the third wear, and I'm forever sewing them up and trying to stop the subsequent ladders with nailvarnish. However, this winter Sainsbury's have bought out this brilliant set of coloured thick tights, 3 for a £4, Tu 40, supersoft opaque tights, denier with lycra. Bought black, grey and purple and only one pair has gone in the toes, and only once. It's the first time tights will have lasted for more than one year. They are brilliant quality, recommend you get them while you can.
Great tip, chillout, thanks for that. Will be hot-footing it to Sainsbugs to stock up :)

I need a little feed back on an idea that I have had swimming round my head ever since I joined this challenge and I would be grateful for any thoughts on it.
Anyway it was just a thought - what do you all think? I know there are probably lots of flaws in the idea - but I thought I would view it here first
    Mission Impossible or what ?
Think that's a great idea, debbiedeejay, would be a nice idea to get the names embroidered inside the dress rather than write on it maybe? It would certainly take some organising but well worth doing, I'd think - good luck!

    Hi to everyone else,
Like the new jacket, redsquirrel, will be very versatile for spring/summer, you can wear that with lots of different colours:)
rosemary - I so agree with you on sizings, it's so frustrating trying to find the right size (ie, the one that fits) nowadays.
chillout - great idea for a makeover thread:)

Well I've managed to get through two months without spending anything :j - very pleased with myself and possibly, one day, I might get around to tidying out my wardrobes and ebaying some things I really do not need any longer - but that's another story!!

Well done to everyone for lots of brilliant bargains and especially well done for all the resisting going on. We can do this :A
:) The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time :)

I'd perhaps try not to hot-foot it SS... it's probably not great for the longevity of your tights :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. No point buying more than you need! ;):p

Says she... because today I was merrily making my way around the myriad of charity shops in the Westend and I did not spend a penny! You heard me correctly! Not one penny. My very favourite thing to do and I managed to resist. I'm still not sure whether I should be excited or horrified by that :D!

    Thanks all to feedback........:)

hmmm you know when you have had a couple of days and nights to mull things over...........well I still like the idea but there is no way I could get if off the ground for this years ball (its next month!)- still will wear it & promote the idea - I think it will take a bit of organising so will have to take time to think & sort out

There is no petticoat to the dress unfortunately so can't embroider on that - my daughter is a student costume desginer so I think I might ask her to have a think about it - I know there are types of "tracing" paper/materials about so maybe getting people to sign that then at end I do the Name thing with the dress then it won't be ruined.

But I like the idea of people wearing a dress with embroidered names at the back/bottom of dress - maybe a conversation point - gets people talking etc.... Dont know really...lots of ideas swimming around in my head!

  • Hi everyone. I'm really impressed by everyone's efforts and sticking to the challenge. However, I have decided that I am going to have to bow out of the challenge, the budget is just too tight for me. I have managed to pay off my debts and even start saving so I am going to allow myself to have a bigger budget. I was including everything as I knew that otherwise I would just end up saying "Oh, I can buy that bag/underwear/shoes etc as they're not in the challenge". And I can't do it. I'm going to work out a reasonable budget and still try to be sensible with my purchase and I'll probably lurk on this thread from time to time. Good luck to you all. There are a few things I need so I'm off shopping!

    Hey everyone,

Blonde Ambition - well done for paying off the debts :j I agree that you no longer have a need to be so frugal. I cannot wait until I'm in that situation too :D *says she who has just returned from a shopping trip*

I spent £ 17 from my work clothes budget & for that bought a top from Next & a pair of black trousers in TKMaxx that had one of the slidey hook thing missing so they discounted them for me :T- will take less than 5 minutes to fit a popper instead ;) I also bought DD some short pyjamas in the New Look sale for £4 but she doesnt have a budget, it's all based on need & growth for her ;)

I saw many many things that I wanted to buy for my home clothes but resisted as 1) I'm still too fat & 2) I dont want to use my money up too soon.

I am purely motivated by paying off my debt as quickly as possible so that I no longer have to be so frugal, if that makes sense.

I keep wondering just how much I will allow myself to spend on clothes when I am debt free ... does anyone have any figures milling around in their heads ? Although I could easily afford £100 a month, that now seems really extravagant :o & I do wonder just how much use or wear I would get out of each item if spending that much .

My home clothes budget is still at £ 5.99 spent, but the work clothes budget decreasing rapidly & now at £ 51 spent, so nearly half way . I will need a couple of pairs of summery trousers - have plenty of skirts & tops - & some shoes & have a nasty feeling I said I would include those in the budget .

Never mind, with every day that passes I 'earn' an extra 27p for my home clothes budget :rotfl:

so glad to be on the challenge as radio and tumble dryer died this week:mad:

bought a DAB radio and spent ages trying to work out how to use it (don't ask me to read instrution book:rotfl:)when OH said you press menu and then change channel by pressing volume:eek::eek::eek: very logical

did get a bargain on tumble dryer as saw in on JL site 1 day and when I came to order it the next day it was £50 cheaper(no explanation and I had got the price right as had emailed to OH with dearer price on!!!) mind you spent 30 mins or more trying to order it as when I pressed basket the page went blank:mad::mad::mad: I worked out that by adding 1 small item I could then get the basket up??????????????

making rillettes at the moment so kitchen smells lovely,(1st time),boil a duck carcass with wine and herbs then meat will fall off and put with a little juice into pot and chill....sounds good and costs little, hope it tastes nice!!
