It's been a while and although I am not officially part of the challenge, I thought I'd confess...

I've bought and am keeping a much needed summer dress, BUT it was £28...I paid £22 of vouchers and someone kind gave me the other £6 so it didn't cost me a penny of physical money of my own.

I also bought and am deciding on another dress at £17 which was £15 of vouchers and £2 cash...think I'll probably return that one...I'll update you when I've decided.

So this year, I've bought and kept: 1 lingerie set (£22 cash) and 1 dress (£22 vouchers and £6 someone else's cash). Not bad, I think...

I really need new shoes but getting them is a nightmare as I take 7.5 EE and hardly anyone sells them so may need to buy online(and they cost a bomb)the pair from marks wide range that fit ok on 1 foot are so big on the other that they flop when I walk:((not had this problem with other ranges)I also have lymphodemia and had an op on my big toe of the bigger foot so it is really hard to get a pair of winter shoes(sandals usually fine as they seem to be made wider or have straps to alter)
It is difficult to find footwear these days that is not only comfortable and accomodates a wealth of problems but looks good too.
And it is true to say that the ones that are good are not cheap - but then is not your health not worth it?
I have a saying if your feet are comfortable nobody takes a blind bit of notice whats on your feet but wear the wrong shoes and it shows in your face and on your feet!

I work in Podiatry dept(but before you all ask no I am not a podiatrist/chiropodist!) for the NHS and am also a big fan of the society of Shoefitters (google them).Good advice for all in shoe shopping .
Even as we get older it's really important to get our feet measured (I bet most us last had it done when we are kids!) Ask if the shoe shop is willing to sell you a Odd pair ie one size 6 & one size 7 - they may charge you extra but it may be worth it in the end?

It is hard, but manufacturers are getting better - look for their wider fits with deeper toe boxes better fastenings that look good too. And yes each manufacturers size is slightly different to anothers and that can also be said for style & season in their own companies! So yes it can be really frustrating at times!

Also try to avoid slip on shoes if you can (inc slippers) a shoe should stay on the foot by a fastening - a slip -on shoe is kept on your foot by your toes.

If you don't have success in shoe shopping in the high street ones to try the net for Hotter & DB shoes - Cosy feet is another option but not to everyones taste but have a good range also inc hoisery.

Just wear the right shoe for the right occasion - So............
Save your high heels for the bedroom girls! Then you shouldn't have to wear them for long! lol!;)

Hope its of some help to some of you!

Marks shoes frustrate me most as 1 is always far too big(even with heel grip and insole) but dont find this much with other firms!I can get fat feet shoes online but the styles :eek::eek:why do shoes manufacturers think just because we have wide feet we want old lady shoes?
I did look at Evans' shoes but they are too wide.I really hate buying shoes,my "bad" foot has metal pins in the big toe which hurt when it is cold and that foot also has the lymphodema so swells after walking/dancing usless I wear my support socks(a lovely look when dancing!) but then my feet get too hot:mad::mad::mad:

think I need to move to a warm climate and wear sandals all the time:rotfl:

p.s I dont want enormous heels and way out styles just simple court shoes would do!!!!!

I keep wondering just how much I will allow myself to spend on clothes when I am debt free ... does anyone have any figures milling around in their heads ? Although I could easily afford £100 a month, that now seems really extravagant :o & I do wonder just how much use or wear I would get out of each item if spending that much .

A good question... I am not in debt, apart from my mortgage, but am totally addicted to this challenge! We are currently hoping to save £10k this year towards our loft conversion. This is a massive sum for us, (ten times what we saved last year) and the various challenges are really keeping us on target.

Post-debt, I think it is good to have new financial goals and motivations - investing in new skills, education, a long life-changing holiday, being able to afford to reduce working hours, take risks with career, invest for retirement... for these reasons and plenty more I think I will always try and stick to the £100 challenge. It makes you more resourceful and consider use of items.

As you will have worked out, I do a lot of second hand shopping which I understand is not everyone's bag. As a suggestion for a figure for post-debt new clothes budget, how about £350 a year for those who have a total aversion to charity shops? That way in the sales, you could still afford some very classic up-market clothes, and enough for the basics to go with them.

    Anyway, some spends to declare:
£2.49 sequin cropped shawl. Had planned to wear it to friend's wedding next month over dress, but doesn't quite go:(. Nonetheless in spring I think I will get a lot of wear out of it as I am a magpie and love anything that sparkles!

Also purchased a camel cropped Wool coat, Monsoon, for £3.99 but that doesn't count I believe! It is a great to have a warm spring coloured coat, I really want the lighter colours that are in the shops now but need to be dressed for the cold!

I need to slow down on spending as like to have a buffer in the challenge fund...
    Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89
    OPs 2011-2016 = £45K 2017 OPs = £9250.20
  • Have bought new spring wool jacket in charity shop £9 but hope that doesn't count. Had some birthday money so buying new M&S dress for summer out of that
