Have to confess to getting ahead of my budget (was planning on £25 per quarter) and spending £12.50 on a denim skirt - been looking for one for a while though and this was 75% off and exactly what I wanted.
Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012.

I've been lurking about for ages, posting on people's SOAs and the like... putting of the inevitable... I nipped into the charity shops in the city centre today, just for a wee nosey, you understand... I had no intentions obuying anything... but I was sucked in... £2.95 to declare, on a lovely, black Ben Sherman shirt which will be fab for work :D.

Guess I better update my sig now then...

On the subject of clothes spending when you are debt free, I paid off my debts at the end of 2008. I'm in the challenge now as I need to save for a flat deposit so trying to cut down on my spending.

I didn't go mad on clothes shopping, I'm quite big so clothes shopping isn't as fabulous as for my thinner sisters. However I didn't have a set budget. There are a few shops that I like - New Look (inspire range), Gap, Dotty Ps and Monsoon but I still only shopped in the sale as I think full price they are too expensive.

I tended to think of things on their own merits - so when I needed something for a wedding I spent quite a bit on a skirt (£55) from Principles but I loved it and I knew i would work on several occasions, and I don't mind spending more money on things for nice occasions.

I'm not a big fan of the 'spend big for classic' pieces though, I find I get bored of things quite easily!! Although I totally agree on the concerns about ethical clothes though, however this issue is a very complicated one and I have no idea where to shop to be sure of good working conditions for the machinists.

However I would regularly pop into Asda for some food and come out with a top and if there were sales on, I would definitely be in there as I LOVE a bargain.

I really hate having a budget so I definitely didn't have one when I'd cleared my debts. However I'm not the sort of person to spend hundreds on a Marc Jacobs handbag - I'd rather go on a holiday with the cash!!! So I never felt like my clothes shopping was getting out of control.
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

And feed my interiors addiction ;)

sarahangel- sorry for spoiling your shopping trip :o

You didn't spoil my shopping trip, it actually made me feel quite liberated that I felt that I didn't "have" to buy anything just because I went into the city. :rotfl:

Anyway, I have had the hankering to go shopping this week and I would like a new skirt to go out in but I haven't seen anything I like so I am going to attempt to draft my own pattern (scary!). I'll let you know how it turns out.

    Good Thursday everyone ;)

Cant remember why I started the challenge,it seemed a good idea at the time,it was not because of debt though.
I seem to be physically unable to buy anything full price when I have to spend cash!I wait for the sales which these days are on all the time or look out for coupons in magazines (such as the Wallis one in She ) but even with coupons I did not buy anything this week....coupons seem to be for shops where I did not fancy anything :(
I thought the shops were lacking in anything new this week, could be because of the cold weather?so am saving my money and coupons
the challenge has made me more focused and am only buying things I really like and that will go with stuff I have already.

  • I can get fat feet shoes online but the styles :eek::eek:why do shoes manufacturers think just because we have wide feet we want old lady shoes?
Honestly the manufacturers are improving - ten years ago there was hardly anything over a wide E or above that was n't beige elastine stretchy material and with no style at all - that or hospital shoes and nobody really wants to go down that route unless it is for a real medical need.

So yes its a slow progress but they are getting there.

try googling "wider styles footwear ladies" go to the one called "mari****" and go through their site - there is plenty out there.Just keep the court shoes for dancing:)

People with narrow longer feet ie size 9AAA have a hard time too in fact so you are not alone. In fact womens shoe size above a 10 can be a nightmare to find .

Oh And I still haven't bought any more clothes since those few shirts in Jan. Happy me.Although it is my daughters birhtday next week and we are having a family meal so need to plan what to wear this weekend so no "panic" going through the wardrobe on the day/night as there will be photos. lol!

    I have a confession.

I went a bit mad and bought about £45 of stuff.....that I didn't declare. However, I have put things on ebay to recoup the money so I won't be touching it...but I am declaring the £1 H&M skirt I got today.

Can I tell u about a tip a friend of mine said who buys and sells all her stuff on ebay. We were having a discussion about ebay and I said I didn't like to get clothes there as I had a couple of times and it was hit and miss whether they fitted properly. She then told me I was doing it all wrong and to go to the shops I like and try on a variety of their tops/dresses/trousers/skirts etc and then I will know the size and styles that fit/suit. Since she told me I haven't bought anything in the high street, sales now seem expensive!

So far this year I have spent more than I wanted to at this point, but have a monsoon dress f(or a wedding I am going to) nd silk top, top shop jeans (half price alot but I needed them), french connection dress x2, topshop dress as well as other bits I have got from charity/secondhand shops. I have lost some weight as well (yippee!!!) so have had a revival of some of my old clothes! Can't see myself needing much more this year, althogh the allure of buying is still there...

After I am out of debt I still intend to spend within a budget of £300
