Also popped into see my sister who said that the invites I seen on ebay (handmade) are a good price of £1.50 each for day and 75p for evening, she makes (and has all the stuff) her own cards and I was hoping we could do it ourselves but it might cost just as much to make, I opened my big mouth and said I'd pay her, ha!
I suppose it depends on how fancy you want it to be...

I buy 50 cards with envelopes from my local craft shop for £6.99 which works out at 14p per card. You would then add on the cost of the embellishments and divide again by how many guests. It's time-heavy, but I enjoy the glitter and sparkle of making my own cards!

There are lots of really interesting threads online about making your own cards, and wedding ones are good to do because they are generally quite simple!

This kit allows you to make 10 of your own invitations and you might even get cashback too!! One of my friends did something like this for her invitations, which was lovely to receive in the post and one we actually kept as well as it was so unusual.

    Morning all,

Ok, so for all of you who have been de-cluttering, can you PLEASE stop giving everything to me! My house looks like a bin lorry has tipped it's load, it's really a disgrace.

Anyway, wedding venue all booked, yeah! We went and seen it on Saturday, there was a wedding being set up and it looked lovely. Had a good feeling about it, the decor even went with our colour scheme. Although it was nearly cancelled after OH's pal said to me on Saturday night (we were at a party), that he was surprised he was getting married again! It's really peed me off and I ended up getting myself upset thinking about it. Of course, OH won't say anything to him about it, he said he'd just be kidding and he reassured me that he does want to get married. You know that thing where it's always the woman dragging the man up the aisle, well that's what he made me feel like!

Went to a wedding fayre with my sister on Sunday and tried on some lovely headpieces, they were flipping extortionate though, over £250! Can't really remember what they looked like (and they're not on the website) but I will try and find something cheaper, any ideas where? Going to look at Accessorize etc., but don't want mega cheap either. Also seen some lovely cake toppers, hand-made figures which actually can look like you. They were fab, just some ideas I've got but still not sure of how it's going to be. Cheap and cheerful hopefully, rather than expensive (and elegant) - elegant I am not, ha!

Definitely going to do our own invites - I'm going to check out those thread F_F, thanks for that. Well better get on with some work!

P.S. Hope the decluttering is going good Willow!

Sounds like it's all coming together! :j I can understand why you felt rubbish about that comment from OH's pal, but if you think about it, it's actually rather flattering - clearly they never thought he would find anyone who would make him want to take that path again, but he has, and it's you, which makes you rather special, dontcha think?! :D

When we got married (10 years ago so prices will have increased a bit no doubt) I got pretty much my full outfit at Berkatex - IIRC dress, shoes, tiara, veil etc cost about £350 all told. Worth looking at John Lewis wedding department too - my friend got a fab pair of shoes there for hers, and of course the new year sales are approaching......

Oh thanks Essex, that does make me feel better, think I just got it into my head that he didn't really want to get married and had said as much to his pal. I do know he had a disasterous first marriage but I am not her and will make him glad he is marrying me :D

Well, I got myself a bargain headpiece off ebay! It was a Glitzy Secrets one, was orginally only £39 new with tags and I got it for £11.50 including postage :j

If it comes and doesn't look the way I hope it does, then it can be used for my niece if she is our bridesmaid. Found a shop that stocks the Glitzy Secrets ones so can go and try others on if need be. The ones I seen at the fayre were just way too expensive for me.

Just been watching Don't Tell The Bride from last night and they said there is a 1000 things to do to plan a wedding - they are joking, right?!

Well in money news, spent £1.20 today on lunch, got a hash brown and a latte for free this morning, and also didn't go near any shops on the way home. Don't get paid til Monday so I'm trying to spend VERY little between now and then. OH is standby tonight (was down last night and made dinner), and also on Saturday so I only have dinner to cook for two on Friday night. Was going to make beef curry instead of chicken for a change but he says he prefers chicken, so will save money as I have LOADS of chicken fillets in the freezer, only need an onion and some mushrooms, fabulous. Should be able to feed myself tomorrow night, Saturday and Sunday with stuff I already have.

 have just remembered it's my sister's birthday tomorrow and although I have her card and chocs, I need £10 to put in the card. Damnation!

OH did give me his wedding fund money and money he owed me for my Visa so suppose will need to take money from that for now. Oh well, no more birthday's til December (with mines in between, ha).

Well off to do a bit more de-cluttering, I think my things are breeding in here.

    Woohoo!

Just updated my ticker and I am 80.2% towards being debt free.......................

OMG, that is the best update yet, obviously paying the loan off early has helped big time - only 5 (max 6) months to go, yeehah!

P.S. This is my headpiece, although the one I got is more silvery than gold.

  • Oh that's so pretty! What a bargain too - well done!

1000 things to do to plan a wedding? Well, that depends on the wedding I guess, if you're a Bridezilla type, then possibly so, don't think there was anything like that for ours though - and that was a cracking good party! :D The most important things are that you have a registrar (or cleric of some description), somewhere to do the deed (no, not that deed you smutty lot, that comes later! ;)) and that you both remember to turn up. A couple of witnesses are handy, but they can be dragged off the street if necessary (Apparently people rarely refuse!) and parents usually want to be in attance too, so it's a good plan to tell them. Other than that though nothing is essential! :rotfl:

    Thanks Essex!

I know, what else apart from what you said is REALLY needed for a wedding! A guy in work told me the other day that he bought his kilt/outfit (£1200), bride's dress (£2000) and 10 candelabras at £40 each, !!!!!!! That is £3,600 which is £100 more than our entire budget!!! We're actually hoping to reduce it to £3000 but will have the £500 as contingency money as you can only plan so much, it's when you come to buy things nearer the time you could get a shock.

Anyway, spent £1.20 on lunch today (got another free latte this morning), although I need to try and limit my latte intake, free or not. Also spent £5.71 at The Co tonight, which got me sister's birthday card (£1.75) - I usually go to the Card Factory but thought had bought her card but hadn't and it was her birthday today - must get more organised! £1.60 for lunch tomorrow, cheese and tomato pasta since it's Friday, mushrooms (24p), onions (27p), prawn crackers (£1.15) - making a chicken curry tomorrow, and 70p for two fishcakes (reduced) for dinner tonight along with cabbage, peas and sweetcorn (already had).

So all in all, not too bad. I have some cabbage left which will do dinner on Saturday, not sure what with right enough, then should manage Sunday's dinner from the freezer too. Paid on Monday, so more payments due off, yeah.

OH gave me his wedding fund money, I am now owed about £180 from it but will wait til the New Year before I re-coup this money incase we need to pay anymore deposits. Determined this wedding will be paid up-front so we don't start off in debt.

Well have a nice night all, better go check on dinner, smells not bad.

    Hey Swinstie,

Firstly 80.2% - that's BRILLIANT!!!! You are so nearly there.

I'm also really impressed with your attitude for the wedding - it's silly to spend so much money on one day - much better to put it towards your life together! And your bargains are sooooooo nice. I've loved the things that you have shown on your page.

Not been here much - I started my new job this week and am really tired - so much to learn! I haven't even progressed on my decluttering. How are you doing with yours?

Right - better go! Will catch up at the weekend.

Morning all - hey urg *waves*

Need to pop into your diary urg, noticed hadn't updated recently, no wonder you're tired!

De-cluttering NOT going well, but a quick tidy up tonight before OH comes down then as he is standby tomorrow and I've nothing else to do, I will start with the great de-clutter again.

Well, nearly pay-day and it's still not looking too bad, although I have used my Visa for my car insurance and another purchase so it's risen again to £3,235.67, eek eek! Looks like I'm going for the six months to pay off instead of 4 or 5, oh well, at least it will be paid. £539.27 per month, IF I do not spend, if I do (which I can't guarantee I won't), then if I pay say £600 per month, that gives me a safety net of £364.33 that if need be can be added to my debt or £60.72 per month.

I REALLY shouldn't need to spend this, this is only a, if I do spend this amount, I can still pay if off within 6 months scenario IYSWIM.

The £600 consists of £145 I paid to car loan, £250 I paid to Halifax CC and £205 I paid to Barclay CC. Obviously I'm aiming to only have to pay the £539.27 per month, but you never know what crops up. I'm resigned to the fact that my Barclaycard will always be used (hopefully sensibly in future) as it's a LOB 6.9% which I couldn't get any better. I never use my 0% cards and only ever use BC, so as long as I can spend within my limits each month i.e. spend then pay off in full the next month, I should be fine and dandy.

Payments aren't due til 1st and 3rd Nov, really itching to pay the extra to get it under £3K again. By the end of the year the debt should be just over £1.5K - OMG sounds fab.

Anyway, almost lunch-time and I am starving!
