Hi Swinstie
Have just stumbled on your diary. What great targets for 2010! Best of luck and I look forward to reading your progress.I wanna be Mortgage Free by February 20130 -
Morning all (and welcome Prudence41)!
Hope everyone had a great Christmas, back to work today and it's been very slow going so far!
Well my targets have been a bit off over Christmas, especially the only spending £120 on clothes for a year, I bought a few work things in the sales, nothing major but it made a dent in my budget. Going to re-start from 1 Jan, so it will be easier to keep track of.
I do have a good excuse for hitting the sales, I have realised that I am very much an emotional shopper and after the Christmas day I had, it's no wonder I went a bit mad.
Basically OH got up, took his injection (he is diabetic), had a bite to eat then as we were opening our presents, he said he had a sore stomach (I had made cabbage soup the day before, so was panicking). He also looked a bit grey so I told him to go lie down. 10 mins later heard him shouting downstairs that he was going to be sick, a minute late I heard a thud.
He had collapsed in the bathroom and seemed to be taking some sort of fit. No convulsions but his body was rigid and his eyes were open. I'm a first aider but I must admit everything goes out the window when it's someone you know. I managed to get him into the recovery position as best I could and he coughed then came to. I've never been so scared in my life, he actually looked dead! We're sure it was a diabetic thing but I have made him get a doctor's appointment (he would'nt let me take him to hospital) as I've not been able to relax all weekend thinking he's going to collapse again.
Apart from that, it's been a great weekend. Went to see Sherlock yesterday, was very good but now back to reality at work.
Hope everyone else had a better one!
P.S. I did get some fab pressies, including a pink digital camera from OH!0 -
What a worry re OH - I know what you mean about panicking.
Glad you had a great Christmas and hope OH is okay.

Oh my, Swin, that sound terrifying! I hope he's alright and the doctor sorts him out. It sounds like you handled the situation very well indeed.

Thanks Urg and NTBY
It was scary but I have been on the Net and found a good website with loads of info, more convinced it was a hypo albeit a severe one (severe is classed as losing consciousness) and even more determined for him to get checked out.
Well have spent £1.95 on lunch today (got my bacon buttie paid for this morning) so will need to update my spending diary when I get home. Spent £8.50 on beer on Christmas Eve and about £15 over the weekend on drinks/lunch. Not too much in the sales but will tot up and note down anyway. As I said will start my £120 clothes challenge in January as honestly didn't mean to buy anything. I did get some 'classics' which is what my new Gok book told me to do - it's Gok's fault I fell off the wagon, ha!
Also 'lost' my bank credit and had to phone on Christmas Day to cancel, turns out it was hiding and not lost at all, ach at least it saves me spending money, can't withdraw without a card now can I?!0 -
Hi Swinstie - hope your OH is ok now. I feel ashamed now saying my Christmas was boring on my thread because my OH had a tummy bug!
I also got the Gok Wan book for Christmas from DD. I love it! The message is seems to get across is that you're better off buying just a few good quality things than having loads of tat (like me!). I only spent £11 in the sales: jumper from Next £6, Christmas cards from Next £1 and a shopper's survival kit from Boots £4 (liked this particularly because it had a tiny leopard print notebook in it!). This is excellent for me!! I start my no clothes/shoes/bags challenge on 1 January until 1 April and no one believes I'll do it, in fact it has made people laugh! Huh!
I really hope your New Year celebrations go better than your Christmas ones! Here's to 2010  Bring it on!I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
Swinstie  how scary!!! Glad your OH is OK now.Onward and upward - with the odd step to the side

Wow - Swinstie, sounds like you stayed very level-headed and dealt with your OH's attack extremely well. It does sound like a hypo doesn't it - I take it there is nothing obvious that might have caused it though? Did his bloods reveal anything untoward? Hi all,
OH just text to say he has a doctor's appointment, so I feel a bit more relaxed. I've thought all day about giving him an ultimatum, either get his health in order or I'm calling it quits! I don't really mean it, but thinking maybe a fright like that will maybe make him listen to me (or dump me) :rotfl::rotfl:
As far as I'm concerned he needs to check his blood regularly, I honestly don't think he even bothers, as he's had diabetes since he was 15, I think he is a bit blase about it all. So no, EH his blood hasn't shown anything but I really think if we had checked it that day it would've been very low.
He also needs to cut down on the Guinness, far be it for me to tell him to not drink, but he needs to cut down as Guinness is probably loaded with sugar. He is a fit guy (works outside, physical job) but he really needs to take care of his health, I've already told him if he wants to be with me then he better take heed as I'm not watching him keel over every other week. Maybe I'm being a nag but he can't just think of himself.
Nagging session over
Haven't totted up spends yet, but I now owe my sister £18 for a wooden bath rack from Next, my old one was getting rusty and Argos don't seem to stock them now, weird! That will come out of Housey budget though.
Ok, dinner time, I will be back......0 -
Well still not done my sums, think I am scared to, ha!
Just spoken to OH, he has an appointment for next Friday (needed one late in the day) and is looking out his blood sugar testing thingybob tomorrow. I told him about the stuff from the Net I printed off and mentioned that if he losses the warning signs, which can happen when you are diabetic long-term, he could lose his driving licence. He sounded a bit put out at that and said he will read it.
Also told him that I was glad he had an appointment, but if he didn't take care of his condition, he could do it alone, so I guess maybe he did get an ultimatum. He said he was taking everything on board and didn't want to lose me over it, felt like a total nag but I want to be with him and not be visting his grave. Could feel the tears coming so had to get off the phone. He has a snooker night tonight with guys from work but I know he won't drink much as he is working tomorrow.
I think I may have scared him away......:o0
