Bleed, then scan showed empty preg sac

OK. Deep breath, counted to 10 etc.
I called the EPU and got nowhere. The lady on the phone was quite sympathetic but said there was a reason why I had to wait for a scan 2 weeks later. She said she couldn't comment on the discrepancy between the 2 scans as she hadn't been present when the first one was done. She also said that an empty bladder wouldn't make a difference. Fair enough. They will not scan me until 31st. They also will not do hcg levels. She said they wouldn't do hcg levels ' for an empty sac'. Lovely.
She said I just have to be patient and wait. So that's what I have to do.
Just now wondering if I can persuade dh to pay out for a private scan. Found a company in Watford that does early scans for £75. What do you guys think? Is it worth it? Or will I just be throwing my money away.
The other consideration is....... I may as well have another week of thinking I may have a viable pregnancy, rather than finding out for definite.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Personally I'd do it. I had private scans wth all my pregnancies (bar 1) and consider that they were worth every penny.
Whether you are "throwing your money away" or not, who can say. Like I said, I was told that I hadn't lost my daughter (after two days of blleding and a previous miscarriage) three days before Christmas 1994. It was the best £95 i've ever spent in my life.
Only you can answer whether you want to pay the money or not.
Call them anyway and see if they can book you an appointment - you can always cancel if need be."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I would pay the £75 and be prepared for either outcome. If it's the one you want (and I have everything crossed that it is
) but if not then you have a difficult situation to deal with close to Christmas.
I had an ectopic preg earlier this year and while some of the staff at the EPU were wonderful some were so blunt at a time when I was feeling so vulnerable really took me back. During the scan just after they'd informed me it was an EP and I was going to surgery one of the nurses said something like "you're lucky, you could be dead". Ahem!
Good luck - for me £75 would be worth every penny for some peace of mind.

Wow Maggie!!! How insensitive. Do you know...... a while ago, I would have thought that if someone lost a baby early in the pregnancy, that it wouldn't hurt very much emotionally compared to losing a baby later. I haven't even lost a baby yet, and am already in such emotional turmoil, I can't believe it. So I'm so sorry for all those unvoiced thoughts over the years and hope that I have never been trite with any sympathies. If you know what I mean.
God!!! I have never rambled so much in my life as I have these past few days. Please ignore me!Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Do you know - I was exactly the same! I didn't consider how you could possiby feel attached to a 'ball of cells' until it happened to me.
Obviously you don't start getting excited 6 months in do you? You feel pregnant and you start looking forward to that baby the moment you get the BFP - I'd known for 3 weeks and of course had it all planned in my head! I was devastated when it didn't work out and it took me a long time to get over so I really do understand your concerns.
I hope you get something sorted....not knowing is the pits.
Big sticky bean (((hugs)))

Thanks. My dd1 was talking about names for the baby last night! What was I to do? I had to join in the discussion. We weren't going to tell her yet, but when I had the bleed last week, she heard me on the phone and talking to dh and put 2 and 2 together!
I spoke to dh about private scan. He says no..... what's the hurry? GRRRRRRR!!!!!!
He doesn't understand why I got upset!!!!!Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Hi Rosie383
I'm really sorry for the situation you find yourself in, I can't imagine what you are going through xx
The questions I'd be asking the private scan people is 'Will I get a definitive answer'? Make sure you tell them everything thing that has happened and what you've been told..... if they can say 'Yes' to getting an answer then it's got to be the best £75 spent.
If they say 'No', or can only give an indication then I think I'd wait and see - but then that's easy for me to say as I'm not in your place.
I wish you, and your family, the very best and will be popping back to see how things are going xxx
Good luckSome days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -
If it were me I think I'd just wait and see, but not having ever been in that situation I couldn't really say for sure.
Is there no way you could pay for the scan yourself? Or borrow the money off OH or another family member? Just to put your mind at rest if you feel it would help having the scan.
It's OK for your OH to say 'what's the rush?', but it's a bit different when it's you that is pregnant.
I really hope all works out for you xThrilled to be DEBT-FREE as of 26.03.10

Rosie, im not medically trained, but i think that they are maybe leaving time between the scans for a reason. Possibly to get a fuller picture, as you are so early on? If that is the case then i think its better for you to wait it out, and not opt for a private scan.
Thinking of you,

When they only seen a sac for me and told me to come back in 2 weeks the first thing I did was go home and book a private scan for the following week. We seen a heartbeat and it turned out I was 5/6 days off with my dates. The ultrasound sonographer said 4 days makes the world of difference at this stage. Its a horrible time hoping for the best but mentally preparing yourself for the worst and you have my every sympathy. Sending you lots of positive thoughts for a happy outcome.:heartpuls Now a Mrs :heartpuls
