  • Hi Rosie
HCG tests are not routine blood tests they are only normally carried out if there is a problem Hcg is the hormone that pregnancy tests pick up and the levels should double every 24/48 hrs. I have googled it so you dont have to and it does appear they can be carried out at 8wks prgnant to determine if levels are increasing or staying stagnent. A blood test today and again in 48hrs has got to be better than waiting 2wks for a scan. Test result can normally be passed to the doctor within a few hrs give them a call you have nothing to loose, they will either say yes or no
Test results for Hcg don't mean anything in this situation.
Hcg can exist and can increase when there is no viable pregnancy.

Rosie, im not medically trained, but i think that they are maybe leaving time between the scans for a reason. Possibly to get a fuller picture, as you are so early on? If that is the case then i think its better for you to wait it out, and not opt for a private scan.
    Thinking of you,
    Mel x
You are correct. They leave a gap between two marker scans. The first one gives all the measurements they need. The 2nd scan is looking for increases in these measurements.
No increases means that the baby died.
Increases mean the baby is ok.
Blood tests for this situation are not helpful.

Unfortunately, my news is not good. The scan showed that baby had stopped developing at around 6 weeks. I now have to make the decision of what type of miscarriage to opt for. I thought I was prepared for bad news, but I wasn't really. At my girlfriends house licking my wounds so to speak.
I can't even face talking to anyone as I know I will just burst into tears!

Thank you all so much for your support at this time. It is going to be a difficult couple of weeks. I tried to arrange a D&C but can't speak to anyone now until Monday, and the earliest they could do it would be Wed, when my dh goes back to work. Hopefully it may happen itself before then, cos I really don't want to wait for another couple of weeks.
