    yes exactly. though on this occasion the seller did not stick to when they said they would dispatch. delivery time is beyond control but dispatch isnt. im sure people purchasing at the moment are allowing extra time for delivery, being christmas, but even with several days added on for xmas snail mail, with the dispatch being so late it cannot arrive in plenty of time.

    the buyer probably needs it for xmas. it is for his son, maybe he doesnt live with him and will only see december 24th, not xmas day, and need to leave the present for 'santa' to bring lol. now buying on the 9th, being a wednesday, the auction says dispatch in 2 days, it should be sent by friday the 11th.

    then they would allow 5-7 working days (after checking with royal mail recently they confirmed working days are classed as mon-fri as only selected post offices tend to open saturdays) for it to arrive, taking us to the 22nd. this then allows all the waiting time royal mail specify, plusan extra day or two just in case with snail mail! xmas tends to slow things up by 1-3 days ive found, and this was probably considered too.

    it would be ready on the 24th to be given as a gift.

    However with the seller posting this on the 15th, with the 5-7 working days at 2nd class, and being xmas, it probably wouldnt arrive before xmas eve, unless very VERY lucky. and this would then be a great inconvenience to the buyer to have to wait in on xmas eve to get a delivery, wrap it, and take it to the recipient.

    It should have been sent special delivery, or 1st class at the very very least. The buyer id imagine would be incredibly disappointed for paying for a service which in effect he hasnt correctly received.

    Its like paying for 'fast food' (usually defined as within 10 minutes), and having to wait 30 minutes for your order! you wouldnt be pleased having to wait an extra 20 mins for food, and u wouldnt be pleased waiting 2 or 3 extra days for a parcel!

    at the end of the day the seller has made a big mistake leaving it so long to post, and by not upgrading to at least first class. refunding the postage and apologising until blue in the face is the least you can do, and even then id expect a neg.

    i have greatest sympathy with the buyer on this one, and i hope it reinstates to everybody how important customer service and sticking to the terms are, so that nobody else finds themselves in this predicament.

  • I think you should of upgraded the post to at least first class, Me personally, I would of got it out Special Delivery if the chap paid straight away.

    They did not pay on the 9th they paid on the evening of the 10th meaning I only had saturday morning to post... and to be honest I work all week so enjoy a lie on Saturdays.

    It also states on eBay "usually takes 2 days to post" not "will be posted within 2 days"

    but you stated a dispatch time of 2 days, so you should stick to it as near as possible! u sent it on a tuesday, so u can obviously get to a post office in the week anyways, what happened to friday? or even monday!! if they paid thursday, you could have had it packaged and posted friday, or made the effort to fulfil your position as a seller and stick to your word and posted it saturday. you are up now on a saturday by 12pm, surely an hour before to go to the post office wouldnt harm anything.

    then again, that was your choice, and you now have to face the consequences...

    Whilst the OP posted 5 days after payment, they did post 3 working days after which is close (but not with in 2 working days I grant you), (although if payment was made after 5pm then I would consider the next working day as day of payment) of the information they gave.
    I never consider Saturday a working day unless the buyer specifies they need it posted before a certain day and are prepared to pay a little extra (something like 10-15p normally as a good will gesture) as I consider, as do the post office, Monday to Friday as working days,not Saturday and Sunday.
    Whilst that may seem unfair on the buyer I do state that I will post within 3 WORKING days of payment, not listing selling which some have been confused over in the past.

  • the OP did not stick to their word of 2 days, and/or upgrade postage to compensate their own mistake. i said in a previous post saturday is not a working day technically but the OP basically said he/she could have sent it then but couldnt be bothered. as they couldnt be bothered monday too, which would have kept it to 2 working days. that extra working day it took made all the difference, as it often does. the seller is still wrong to have waited and not compensated, and they will have to deal with it through the buyer/ebay/paypal and face whatever is thrown at them. yes ok you say u post 3 days after payment, this isnt about your auction im sure you do. and when u select the dispatch time when listing something, it says 1/2/3 however many u choose days after receiving cleared payment, so again, no excuse can be made there.

    So you couldn't forego one lie-in to post the item to the buyer so near to Christmas?? Bit mean ....

    Good to see laziness gets in the way of your respect for your buyers. I suppose if it's "too cold" you don't post either.

    We were sorting and wrapping stuff for about 3 hours this morning, got finished about 7-ish. We do the same kind of thing every day there's a post collection, making sure everything that needs posting gets sent, and if it means losing a few hours sleep, so be it.
