Hi all. We need your help. Bank Charges is often in the news and we are frequently asked if we have any MoneySavers that are willing to tell their stories to the press.
If you'd like to help spread the news and encourage others, please e-mail casestudy@moneysavingexpert.com (sorry but we can't answer questions at this email address) with as much of the following info as you can:
* what stage of reclaiming are you at - had money back /on hold / not yet claimed
* how much is/was your claim for
* who is/was your bank
* a daytime phone number - we often need to reach people at very short notice
* whether you are happy to appear in the papers,tv or both
* where you live

Just a thought - there's a lot of politicians looking over their shoulders right now and it's never been easier to contact them. Why don't we do a tempplate email/letter to send to our local MPs? The advantage of a template is it's easy to fill in and send so more people are more likely to do it which means that maybe politicians will get the message and pass some useful legislation for a change in the next parliament.
Or we could run a petition on the Downing Street website......0 -
i have just had a letter back from hsbc which states that in light of the decision from the supreme court they have "decided" not to uphold my complaint of some £4500 charges on 3 accounts, just wondering what is my next step0

I have recieved a letter from my bank dated 18 December 2009 stating that "These legal proceedings have know ended, with the Supreme Court confirming that the bank charges are not capable of amounting to penalties at common law and that the level of them cannot be assesed for fairness under the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contract Regulations.
This means that we are now in a position to deal with your complaint. In summary, we believe that the disputed charges were properly charged and the outcome of the legal proceedings confirms our position. We are therefore not upholding your complaint and we will not be refunding the bank charges." The letter goes on staing that I can contact them but they point out that that they believe there is no legal basis on which the amount of the charges can be challenged. and if they do not hear from me within 8 weeks of the date of this letter the complaint will be considered closed. Can they do this in light of the possible decision of the OFT on the 22 December0 -
Feel let down by the OFT as they are our champions for JUSTICE when taking on big corporations,does this mean that from now on we are on our own, if so maybe they need to look at there role in every day life as they seem to run scared as soon as an actual fight turns up. And where does that leave us.0

Received a standardised letter yesterday from Barclays Bank telling me about the Supreme Court decision and that, if I don't appeal within three weeks, they will consider the matter closed and dispose of my claim.
I have absolutely no idea where to go from here. My claim came to around the thousand pound mark and I would like to continue fighting! Help?PROUD TO HAVE DEALT WITH MY DEBTS0 -

I've moved your post into this "official" thread for further help.
I will be moving out of this thread any "off topic" posts and if anyone feels compelled to further argue the ins and outs of reclaiming please post on this thread.

I've had a similar letter from First Direct (looks like the same as Richard actually). Personally I am going to wait for developments and further advice. Remember that any time limits they put on you are not binding!0
