...think I’ll be buying jumpers and thick socks for this coming winter!
It always amazes me that people don't first think to wear appropriately warm clothes before they crank the heating up.

I'm surprised you still have heating on in June

My heating's programmed with the temperature profile we want 365 days per year. I heard it kick in the other night as the temperature dropped in the middle of the night. Why should my family shiver simply because it's June, July or August?

It's 8 degrees outside at the moment and our lower limit indoors is 18 degrees, so like Talldave our heating has come back on again. There are programmable states in each room and they just get on with it, day or night 365 (or 366) days a year.

Just watching a TV programme and this was said.
'We are going to rip out the storage heaters because they are inefficient and replace them with modern electric heaters'.
No wonder people fall for marketing for modern electric heaters.

Which programme was that?  Grossly irresponsible message playing straight into the hands of the magic radiator hawkers.

I still find this odd. Largely in sleeveless tops and shorts for the last few weeks I've just put on tops with sleeves and then lightweight zip up fleeces as it's got colder. At night I get under the bedclothes and not once in all this time have I felt slightly cold, let alone shiver. Are none of those options possible to you to prevent your poor family shivering?

We too have been in summer gear and I thought we would get through a week with minimum gas consumption for hot water only, but one cold night kicked the heating in - just for a short time.

I'm not one of those people that shuts off the heating at 10pm and suffers whatever chill factor the weather brings. For decades I've used programmable thermostats to set a lower comfort threshold at night, and only for the heating zone the bedrooms are in.  And with a four year old who randomly wanders around at night with pillow and settles down anywhere it's nice to know they won't freeze.

It may be OK where you live buts is p'd with rain here all day and the outside temp has managed to get above 10 degrees (it was eight yesterday). It's also been a bit windy which sucks all the heat out of the wet brickwork.

Not only that I get nagged narrow when SWMBO gets cold so it's easier to let the heating do it's stuff than have my ears bent
