Anyone used Rointe heaters?

Could it be that some electric heaters have a better way of transmitting the heat generated by the electricity out into the room?If not surely trading or advertising standards should be alerted to a false statement about being more economical to run etc?1

Physics question, Second Law applies to Joule's law, and thermodynamics in general.
So directly proportional to the resistance of the conductor, directly proportional to the time period the heater consumes electricity. Switch power off after exactly 1 kW consumed get out 1 kW Pete.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Was he hoping to get some commission?
Margin on these is space probe cost dimensions. The biggest sin against poor UK consumers is the ASA continue to allow the phrase "replacement night store heaters". IMO this leads green eyed buyers into zero consumer protection.
They are NOT in the UK architecture of our language, night store functioning heaters. They do NOT STORE heat.
Best of luck Gerry.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. If you read my post correctly at no time was I suggesting you could "get something for nothing".0

If you go back over the posts in this forum you will see reference to scores of reports from the Advertising Standards Authority(ASA) castigating firms marketing their electrical heaters using 'weasle words.'
To overcome this, many of these firms are now past masters at wording that 'imply' their products are more efficient, and the adverts are clever enough to fool many people. Heaters filled with ingredient X, coated with Ingredient Y all have apparently magic properties.
There are posts stating that salesmen have visited and charged up to £2,000 for a single plug in heater. Important to note this does not apply to Rointe.1 -
Hi all,
My dad (landlord) had Rointe heaters installed back in October 2018 following the arrival of our first baby. We live in a 2 bedroom thatched cottage (poorly insulated) and our night storage heaters were starting to give up. Our electrician really sold the Rointe heaters to us. Promising cheaper, more efficient heating.Fast forward 18 months, and we are absolutely gutted, I am especially gutted for my dad for paying out thousands on these new heaters as I feel he was led up the garden path and really misinformed whilst trying to do the best for me.Throughout the winter, my monthly electricity bills are averaging at £260 a month. Over 2 x what it used to be with night storage. Because of this, I have cut down on the heating and feel like it’s been an uncomfortable winter. I have trialled different settings on the heaters, firstly keeping all heaters on at a steady 16 degrees. At the moment, I have turned all heating off through the night (with the exception of the babies room) and I really don’t feel like I can cut back anymore as to be honest I feel cold throughout the day as it is. We have even had the Rointe rep out twice to check my settings and he agreed that my bills are very high... but that’s as far as it’s got?!
I have estimated that my electricity will cost us £2000 for the year.I have been noting down our meter readings regularly and submitting to our provider so I know the bills are accurate. For the month of March we have used 1,800 KWH. Could this be right?!This has caused massive unnecessary stress between me and my husband. And if we’d have known what we do now, we never would have got them installed.
Has anyone else experienced this? Or can anyone shine any light on why my bills are SO high?0 -
I am sorry hannahjhan but your experience seems very typical - expensive to install and expensive to run. You can see from the number of pages on this thread that you are not alone.
All you can do is to ensure that you are on the very best tariff. What tariff are you on and what is your annual consumption?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill2 -
You bills are high because you've got that sort of heating. They aren't anymore efficient that any other heater and because they are not storage heaters they use electricity when they are in use which usually during peak times
What electricity tariff are you on. Hopefully its not the E7 that the night storage heaters were using because although you get off peak rates for 7 hours overnight, you'll be paying for 17 hours at your peak daily rate which is usually quite a lot higher than a single rate tariff.
Give us a bit more info, supplier, tariff and the first part of your post code and someone might be able to point you in the right direction.
1800kwh could well be right for March but everyone uses energy in a different way and most wouldn't be using your sort of heating so it's not easy to compare. Most people use around 65-70% of their energy between November and March with the other 30% during the seven spring, summer and autumn months.our energy consumption is still quite high but reducing quite a bit now that the warmer weather is approaching. What was your consumption in Dec, Jan and Feb
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1 -
Hi Robin9,
We are currently with Bulb and our tariff is 12.91p/KWH which was one of the cheaper ones we found. I am not entirely sure of our annual consumption, but going back through previous providers in 2017 we used 15,559.
It has been a very expensive lesson learnt. I do not think that these heaters are at all suitable for our building and feel like the Rointe rep had a responsibility to flag that up before!
