To compare to summer usage.. JUL/AUG/SEPT 2019 averaged at about 350 KWH.
We are not on E7 as changed all that over when we had our storage heaters removed (what a mistake that was).

We always appreciated that these would be more expensive than night storage, but I never anticipated this much.  When I got my first bill I felt sick!

That's not a bad tariff but by no means the cheapest. I'm all electric (heating as well) and we use about 7000kwh a year, but we do have an air source heatpump.

We are presently with Symbio at 11.5p which would work out around £200 a year cheaper for your 15,000kwh.

I do try to go with the cheapest supplier as every extra penny per kwh costs an extra £70 a year (£150 in your case) although I've so far managed to be with three that have gone bust but they've saved me many hundreds of pounds whilst I've been with them.

I'm very strict about recording my consumption and logging it so I can keep control - a reading at least once a month to the supplier and checking the bills but most important, downloading an saving them so I've got a full history for if or when they go bust. I actually read my meter every Monday morning a log it on a spreadsheet so I know what I'm using

  • I moved into my flat in October 2019. I have 2 small Rointe heaters, one in the spare room and one in the hall, and 1 large Rointe heater in the lounge. I signed up with eon for gas and electric. I use around £7.60 gas per month, the gas only being used to heat the water ‘on demand’ which I’m happy with. The electric bill is horrendous!!! Most of the spend according to the data on my eon app goes on heating...and I have actually unplugged the heaters from the sockets now. Surely there is a cheaper way to heat my flat than using these horribly expensive heaters?

themoog1975 - please do read the 58 pages of this thread - it does not make for happy reading

  • Yeah... I read the entire thread. Grim stuff indeed! I’ll have a word with the landlord and see if he is prepared to install a new gas boiler and radiators that run off it. If not, my contract is up in a few months so I’ll look to move.

What Eon tariff are you on?  Swopping now might save a few £'s.

  • I’m on the cheapest tariff but thanks to the Rointes I have to clear what I owe them before I can do anything!

  • Shade under £300. Once I’m off furlough I’ll get that paid off ASAP.

Did a little experiment today. Turned my oven on for 1 hour at 180 degrees c to cook my tea. Meter reading at start was 84240.0 and after an hour it had gone up to 84241.2...an increase of 1.2. I then switched on the Rointe heater in my lounge, set it for 21 degrees and ran it for an hour. Meter reading at start was 84241.2 and at end it was 84242.4...again, an increase of 1.2. And the heater clicked off after 46 mins as the room had got up to temp!

So my heater costs the same to run as my oven, and I had three heaters all clicking in and out throughout the day!!!

No wonder it was costing me a bomb...think I’ll be buying jumpers and thick socks for this coming winter!
