Actually, you can get quite a lot for a tenner a week. I can get a week's worth of veg for a fiver or so at the local market (I'm veggie, so there's no need to buy expensive meat), you can get a whole sack of spuds for two quid in ASDA that will last a few weeks (OH love wedges & potato scones), smartprice tea bags for 28p & margarine is about the same, pasta is three bags for a quid in Farmfoods, milk is a quid for 4 pints, eggs are 15 for £1.50. I buy my spices in bulk from the local Chinese store, make the bread myself at a cost of about 40p a loaf, grow my own herbs, make my own stock & bake a hell of a lot (ingredients topped up monthly & mainly smartprice).

Trust me, we don't go hungry (I'm actually gaining flipping weight at the moment ) & OH is also entitled to a staff lunch when he's working.

I was gobsmacked at anyone only spending a tenner a week on food, and couldn't work out how - my fruit bill costs that, but looking at your list, it doesn't sound a very healthy, balanced diet, to be honest.

And, it's a very bland/basic - what about tea, coffee, fruit juice, cheese etc.,?

Blimey, my husband would think he'd died and landed in Heaven if I spent that little........

Go and find a generous (and preferably rich) man lol;)

To be honest, you'd get better food and more respect if you got sent to prison, than you seem to get at home - you must be more forgiving/patient than I could ever be..

    Lin :)
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

It sounds really healthy to me! Why do you think it's not healthy?
If it's protein, I don't think we need that much. I quite like the eat for your blood type idea. I'm type A and apparently run best on lots of carbs and no meat which is how I tend to eat anyway.
I think perhaps OP wants to eat like that but I must admit I don't think I could, too much of a choco/c.rapoholic!

I agree about the respect part. Someone ( a man particularly) will only treat you how you allow yourself to be treated. Refuse to be treated that way and mean it.

The original poster mentioned a number of protein sources including beans, which are probably the healthiest source of protein. As long as she gets enough protein her diet sounds very healthy indeed. 'Beans' potentially includes kidney, black eye, adzuki, canelloni beans, as well as chickpeas.

Please do not think protein is not an important part of the diet. It is one of the main constituents of muscle, including heart muscle. Serious anorexics eventually die because they digest their heart muscle, so the heart stops functioning properly. The body needs protein for many purposes and what happens here is that if there's none in the diet the body will start breaking down the muscles (including, eventually, heart muscle). Beware fad diets. From a scientific point of view, that 'Eat for your blood type' diet is a load of bull.

Given that there are no essential carbs and about 20 essential amino acids (found in protein) you are talking rubbish.
Who I am is not important. What I do is.

I did not say that we don't need any. I hardly eat any protein compared to the amount of carbs I eat (and the protein I do eat is mostly pulses and cheese, occasionally some tofu) and was told by a GP on getting some blood tests done that I must be eating a lot because I had more than I needed. I don't go on fad diets but this suggests to me that there may be something in the eat right for your type theory? Or maybe that we don't need to eat quite as much protein as some people think we need to. Some people for instance think they need to eat meat once or more a day to be healthy. Or maybe they're just type O's :D.

What blood test was that then?...........you need to get protein from more then one source if you arent eating meat , you need the 8 essential amino acids

I had a few at the time so not exactly sure which one he pulled that off. If I feel fine on what I do and then have it confirmed by a doc as well that I'm doing alright in the protein stakes I don't really care about the theories.

I'm not sure there is a test tbh , lack of protein in the diet manifests in muscle wastage over time ., so not sure you would feel ill unless you were on a starvation diet ? .I thought you liked the theory about blood group diets :rotfl:

This can be a strange place at times.

Errata commented on the basic food situation. LegalBlonde asked what that had to do with anything, 13 people thanked her post, so agreeing.

Then followed 31 posts all comparing notes on shopping and diet!

    What?

OP, you are not living, you are existing, or are you a celeb in training for a jungle stint on rice and beans?

You say you have put weight on. I'm not surprised with all those carbs. Bread, potatoes, rice, oats.
You are Vegetarian? Then an omelette, and broccoli would be far better than all those carbs. If you don't already, then you should be eating plenty of lentils as in soup and patties.

You are simply not getting enough protein in your diet, and yes it is relevant to how mean your husband is. If you lived with a normal spender, you wouldn't be living this way, and you are impressed by him warming your side of the bed!

He's thinking, "I'll warm her side, then she won't ask me to pay £4.00 for a hot water bottle." Beware of him warming the loo seat too, rather than heat the bathroom.

You may not have suffered yet, but you will unless you up your protein and cut the carbs. Protein is your foundation, carbs are instant energy. Heaven knows where your B vits and iron are coming from. if you can, get a jar of Marmite and make a drink from it, good Vit B source.

Google "nat med forums" post your daily diet and see what they say.

What I found really telling was that OP's husband eats a meat meal at work.

Yes the diet is highly relevant to the thread as Errata pointed out.
There is much adulation on the board for those surviving on £10 or £7.50 a week, but what sort of life is that? Borderline OCD I'd say.

" Right, let's see if we can get it down to £7.00, then I can post it on MSE. No matter that we have no life and I am feeling lethargic. Let's go for it. You work out the menus, I'm too tired"
