On a fiver's worth of food a week, I doin't know how he finds the energy to complain.
Actually, you can get quite a lot for a tenner a week. I can get a week's worth of veg for a fiver or so at the local market (I'm veggie, so there's no need to buy expensive meat), you can get a whole sack of spuds for two quid in ASDA that will last a few weeks (OH love wedges & potato scones), smartprice tea bags for 28p & margarine is about the same, pasta is three bags for a quid in Farmfoods, milk is a quid for 4 pints, eggs are 15 for £1.50. I buy my spices in bulk from the local Chinese store, make the bread myself at a cost of about 40p a loaf, grow my own herbs, make my own stock & bake a hell of a lot (ingredients topped up monthly & mainly smartprice).
Trust me, we don't go hungry (I'm actually gaining flipping weight at the moment ) & OH is also entitled to a staff lunch when he's working.Life is a waste of time.

I'm sure you don't go hungry - but feeling full is not the same as feeling healthy..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I find that idea interesting - but I still haven't got under £25 a week for me alone! What do you have for protein apart from the eggs?0 -

Milk, cheese (forgot to mention that earlier, but I usually buy it in bulk when it's on special offer), occassionally tofu (40p a block from Chinese store), all types of beans, porridge oats (50p for massive bag in ASDA) & rice all contain protein. I occasionally buy quorn if it's on special offer.
OH gets to eat meat at work, although he's welcome to eat it at home too, providing he buys & prepares it, but he's happy enough with my cooking & says he doesn't really miss it.Life is a waste of time.

It's very interesting that you can feed two adults healthily on a tenner a week. Even HM Prison service can't manage that..................

omg! a tenner a week! for two adults!!! dear lord - my shopping bill is around 60 a week! my OH insists on eating like a king though and is happy to pay it!
can you please tell me how you train a husband to leave the room to fart? been married for 34 years and havent managed that! tho i did stop him from farting in bed and then pulling the duvet over my head while laughing like a loon..........I puked over him and he had to clean it all up!0 -
Errata, I am not usually rude on this forums but OKAY WE GET IT. You think she is being unhealthy spending £5 each a week on food. How exactly are your comments at all constructive or helpful? We get your point. She didn't ask for any food or nutrition advice, she only mentioned her food bill in the context of her question. So how exactly are you helping her by continually repeating your opinion that she MUST NOT be able to eat well on £5 a week just because you couldn't manage it??:mad:Debt Free Wannabe by 1 January 2016

If you enjoy cooking, why not set up a little catering business?0
