is dove soap dangerous to eat?

Options
I'm 33 weeks pregnant and am craving soap badly. I had this with my two previous children and they came out ok :rotfl: well one is disabled but i'm sure its not soap related
anyway my OH isnt happy I am eating it, he says he is going to ban it and throw it all out but any one with a pregnancy craving will know what I mean when I say 'I NEED IT!!!!'
So is there anything dangerous in the soap to cause harm to baby? Its the cream bars of solid soap, the cream bath and the triple moisturising cream wash :o

I wouldn't have thought that it would do your bowel much good. Which is not a particularly good idea to upset during pregnancy.

I'm with your husband. You need to develop a more edible craving.

I know how bad cravings can be - mine was Leerdammer cheese.

  • All soaps are highly alkaline and will most probably neutralise the stomach acids and interfere with digestion. This may not be what you want to happen when you're trying to provide valuable nutrients to your unborn child. I wonder if there's an alternative that might satisfy your craving but not have the same effect? I'd have a chat with you HV, midwife or GP about it when you have the chance

Yes I do actually, I am normally very anemic and on extra iron tablets when not pregnant, but my midwife told me not to take them, she said only to take pregnacare. I havent had any blood tests done since i was 12 weeks pregnant, so the chances are i am lacking iron :o

I would love to find an alternative, something thick and creamy and bubbly :rotfl: but its the smell too :o
Will ask the midwife when I see her next and see what she says.

  • What about smelling the soap while you're scoffing a nice big bar of Aero?

Maybe you could just take the odd wee sneaky sniff and lick? instead of scoffing the whole bar!
Poor you though... all I wanted was chinese beansprouts and those horrible ( I hate anyhting fishy) prawn flavoured Skips, loads of pickled beetroot and pickled onions too , gave me terrible heartburn!
