Retailers charge restocking fees if items are returned for no reason other than it wasn't wanted.
I have been stung by buyers before thinking they could just say it was faulty and then return an item before. I did issue a refund but only partially, less my fees. Admittedly that was before Paypal started being anti seller rights.
So ye sit may be pointless now but certainly not stupid.

Its stupid because you are dealing with paypal why give inaccurate advice that will cause the seller more problems. If your going to give advice it make sense that it actually applies to the situation and the procedures being used (In this paypal). Not what you think should happen

The item was returned for a reason it was faulty as far as we know we have no other evidence
  • Hi everyone,

The Buyer Posted the iPhone back to me Special Delivery for delivery on Tuesday however I missed it and had to go to collections and picked it up yesterday afternoon.

I took a pen knife with me so I could check the package in the car. I was a bit worried I was going to get back a box full of stones.:o So a big sigh of relief there.

Thankfully the iPhone is mine and all accessories were returned with it, as I checked it against my record of serial numbers and IMEI numbers.

Fortunately the buyer brought a case for it, so its didn't get scratched up apart from when he obviously removed the case, there are 1 or 2 very minor scratches on the chrome, but I'm glad its virtually how I sent it so I'm not bothered.

The weird thing is he sent me a case for it, :confused:At first I thought he must of put it in there by mistake but then he emailed me again asking for his refund( impatient fellow this one) the following.

'i send the item to u by first class so it should be with please send my refundas soon as u can
and i have alos send a cover 4 the iphone so please refund soon as posible'

So to me, he's probably trying to appease me with giving me a free iPhone case, and basically brought the phone, kept it a week and half, decided it's not for him and thought he would just make a fault up to get a refund. He obviously decided he no longer wants a iPhone thus no longer needs an iPhone case. Abit of a giveway that:rolleyes:

I spent an age testing the iPhone yesterday and today, Been on the internet, downloading apps, ringing people, getting them to ring me to test the phone, switching it off and on, hooking it to itunes etc etc and it works, There's nothing wrong with it. No network dropping at all. Total waste of time this transaction.

I have decided I haven't got anymore time to waste with this buyer being Christmas and having a few birthdays coming up, so have refunded him the cost but am not paying him postage.

He seems desperate for a refund but call it karma, the refund has been put in review by PayPal (don't know why, maybe thats how the dispute process works) but the best bit, my payment is gone as a e-cheque for some reason, meaning he wont get cleared funds till 29 December.

Serve the g!t right for messing me around, now he can wait.:D

Did you issue it as a refund? Or did you send the buyer a payment for the said amount? The reason I ask is, if a refund is processed, it is normally processed as an instant payment and not an e-cheque, and if it was sent as a payment, Paypal will still see an amount pending to refund.

I issued a refund through the Resolution Center in PayPal , I didn't understand it as well. Also I had some money in PayPal and it didn't take that into account. It went for the full amount from my bank account instead.

I read the whole thread did you?
The Buyer was being obstructive and not willing to resolve the 'fault' by any means other than refund. If there is a Stupid element here it is the well documented facts of Paypal being very anti seller. I may have voiced an opinion, advised of a course of action that by all rights should be permitted, going by the facts and the final outcome^^^^.
However if you wish to refer to myself as stupid then please remember that by your own facts Paypal will refund the whole amount anyway so won't make the slightest bit of complication for the OP!!
Glad it seems OK OP. It is issues like this that Paypal really needs to get a handle on. Ebay is just like any private transaction and yes it is good that it adds additional rights for people but there needs to be more accurate & fair mediation on their end. Distance selling rules/laws allow buyers rights over traders for 7days, why do private sellers get stung by this 5times as long rule.

Thanks Alison x, In a way I'm relieved I got it back in one piece but I just am so annoyed that I've wasted 3 weeks and ended up with the damn thing to list and sell all over again.

I still have to wait and see if they have the cheek to leave me neg feedback as the payment is going to take so long, and you never know about ebay and their FVF policies.

I think I'm going to wait till after Christmas now to relist it. Thanks everyone for the advice, been really helpful.

Try Gumtree and sell it free locally for £350 cash. As long as your confident it is fine. You will know the area for coverage, no fees, it's just before Christmas and people will be deperate to get one quick.

Doh!, Yes your right:D It's that automatic "I'll stick it on ebay again" thought pattern from me. Got to snap out of it, I need to stick it somewhere else and save some cash.;)

So after all that maybe the phone really does have poor reception, and you just live in a strong signal area?
Bet the buyer is relieved to have got his money back, he's probably thinking he was lucky he wasn't scammed after all.
