Hi Trinny,
There's an earlier thread with lots of ideas for using pears so I've added your thread to it to keep the replies together.

Put oven on 160 Fan or Gas 4 - medium
Peel pears and put into covered, microwaveable dish. Heat for 4 mins on full or until tender.
Meanwhile, whip up 4 oz flour, 4oz butter, 4 oz sugar and 2 eggs with a tablespoon of chocolate powder or drinking chocolate
Spoon sponge mix over pears and bake until spongy!
Can be finished off in microwave. Nuke for about 5 mins. Eat with custard0 -
Peel pears, cut base off so they sit upright nicely (leave stalk on if there is one) poach gently in a mix of red wine, sugar and water, unbtil they absorb wine colour and are tender. Take out of liquor and leave pears to cool. Reduce wine. water, sugar mix to form syrup to pout over pears, or perhaps add more sugar and arrowroot or cornflour to make sauce. I serve this cold with a sweetened natural greek yoghourt with a liitle bit of anis liqueur added.0

We have a full tree of pears ripening nicely at the moment.
However, we're at a loss as to how they might be preserved. Apparently my parents tried bottling them once and the jars exploded!! :rotfl: I'm not sure about freezing them because of the loss in texture - bit like freezing stawberries I think.
Suggestions anyone?0 -
Yum!!! Thanks Rosie x0

I used to regularly peel, quarter and freeze pears when there were a couple lingering. When I accumulated a few I would use them in a crumble. They wouldn't be any good uncooked but using them like this saves stewing them first. I do the same with eating apples that are a bit too bruised or soft.Love and compassion to all x0 -

I have quite a few pears that were picked over a week ago. They are starting to feel soft but are very dry.
Does anybody have any ideas as to what I can do with them for now and for preserving?
