Peel, core and cut in half. Put in a suitable microwave dish with a little water and sugar to your taste (start with a tablespoonful), and cook gently for about 10 minutes. Allow to cool. Tastes like tinned pears.
serve alone or with custard (also cooked in the microwave)

Slice into yogurt and drizzle with honey, sprinkle a few toasted flaked almonds on top.

Poach in coffee and cinnamon or red wine and eat with cream, yogurt or ice-cream (poached pears freeze well)

Slice into yogurt & muesli or porridge for breakfast

Make crumble! Do as you would for an apple crumble but use pears instead. If you have some berries as well, they go fantastically well together.

Or, also on the pudding theme, you can bake them in the oven with a sprinkle of brown sugar and a drizzle of honey and they will be delish!

    Hi babyblooz,

There's an earlier thread with lots of ideas that should help you to use them up so I've added your post to it to keep the suggestions together.

Pear Tarte Tatin is delicious and very easy to make. Just caramelise the pears with some butter and sugar in a frying pan, cover the pan with puff pastry (I cheat and buy ready made pastry!) Then pop it in the oven til the pastry is cooked and golden. Tip out onto a plate and serve with cream or ice cream.

If you have any other bits and pieces in the cupboard that need using up you can always add them too for a bit of variety, for example, I recently made pear, pecan and cranberry tarte tatin as I had a few dried cranberries left over and a load of pecans.

    Hi All

I have just bought a bag of pears - 12 organic fresh pears for 24p - bargain.

Does anyone have any ideas for recipes. I am guessing that i could probably do some kind of pear flan - french style. But i am stuck for recipes.

    All help gratefully welcomed:T

Maybe fry gently in butter and brown sugar until they caramelise and serve with pancakes and ice cream :)
