Hi Chocolatepennyfarthing,

There's a recent thread on using pears so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.

Hi Folk

DH was out today pursuing his hobby and happened to go through an abandoned orchard. He has brought me home a large lunch box full of hard and small pears which just happened to fall into his lunch box! What is the best way to process for the freezer so I can do crumble? Peel, gentle stew and then freeze?

• I'd peel them, cube them, blanche them in boiling water for a minute, then freeze them. That way I think you might still have some texture in them when you make our crumbles.

I wish I had an orchard near me. I've a pear tree with just 8 lovely wee pears hanging, but they're still brick hard.

i have just made loads of pear n cinnamon (sp?) muffins using hard pears that my mum gave me off her tree. i am eating one as i type and they are delish!! i made extra to freeze as i don`t think even my teenage boy could polish off 24 muffins :rotfl: i was a bit wary as the pears were nearly rock solid but they came out lovely. i am going to read your thread with interest as i just have another 3 carrier bags of pears to use up now :D
proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance! :p
Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat money
