I have a tin of pear halves which have been in the cupboard for ages. Has anyone got a good easy cake or pudding recipe to inspire me? Thanks.0

Hi there,
I do a pear upside cake with a standard sponge recipe and it comes out lovely, very nice served still warm from the oven with cream or custard or sliced as a cake. You do need to line the bottom of the cake tin to make sure you get all the yummy sticky bit from the bottom when you turn it out. Then I just make a standard sponge mix but use 4 oz SR flour, 4 oz butter, 4 oz caster sugar and 2 eggs. Cream your butter and sugar (TBH I use pretend butter, can't believe - that sort of thing as I find it makes the best cakes light but still buttery) til it looks like vanilla ice cream add the eggs one at a time and beat in then fold in the flour. arrange the pear halves in the tin and pour over the mix, pushing it around a bit until it is roughly evenly distributed then cook in a med hot oven tin risen, golden and done - be careful of the skewer test as if you stick it into a bit of pear it will come out sticky and you can think your cake is not done when it is. Cool for 5 - 10 mins in the tin and carefully turn out.

You could try putting some crumble mix on and have pear crumble.0

i do like stilt walker but taking out a tbsp of the flour and replacing with one of cocoa - yum, or a plain sponge with some ground ginger in goes great with pearsPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Not a cake exactly, but a real treat in our family is tinned pears with scoop of vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce (Tbsn golden syrup, heaped teaspoon cocoa and a good splash of water -stops it setting solid on contact with ice cream - heat in microwave for 30-60s until runny.) This does four of us - drizzle it on with a teaspoon and make swirly lines etc - there's usually some left to go on something else.Jan 2011 GC £300/£150.79 (2 adults, 2 teens, working dog, includes food/cleaning/toiletries)0
