for immediate usage in next few days in order to reduce overall amount:

peel and mash the pear.freeze in cube tray for pear ice cubes.the weather shud b warm-ish next tue/wed at least.could be used in jiuce drinks.for example rasperry juice and pear ice cubes.children will love it!!

secondly, same as above but dont have to freeze in ice cube tray, freeze however you like.then when needed (on one of the warm-ish days!!!!) take out and crush, will change into slush.can be eaten on own, as a desert with fruit pieces and/or jelly whatever combo u and family prefer.

do u have children-the above will work well for them.
  • Thank you ever so much for all your wonderful suggestions :D

We've just finished jamming 8kg of damson into damson jams (they also have a damson tree that they don't use!) and started stewing my first batch of pear and lemon jelly.

We really like the idea of pear butter! Thank you for the link. I've found a spicy pear butter with cardamon, which I think is quite different.

Also going to give a go with freezing them in ice cube trays to make pear frapachinos :D Sounds very classy!

    I will keep you updated!

I'd certainly recommend stewing it down in bags to reduce the bulk, and cramming into your freezer. When you're sick of pears, you can mix some of the purree with stewed apples, sultanas and cinnamon to eat with milk puddings, or to use as crumble.
Another alternative would be to try mixing the pear puree with cream and making some pear ice cream, or a mixed apple & pear ice cream.
I don't know whether this would work, but I know you can make banana cake, so you could probably subsitute some stewed pears for the mashed bananas and make pear cake or pear muffins.
This time of year is lovely for reaping all the harvest but it certainly does stretch the imagination and the storage space sometimes, doesn't it?

My late ma -in-law used to bottle virtually all her spare fruit, and if I remember rightly she did pears in a beautiful syrup in kilner jars. I wish I could remember how she did them, but they were gorgeous in mid February with a dollop of hot custard on them a lovely taste of the summer when the snow was on the ground

Pears stewed in red wine with some sugar and spices like cinnamon and cloves are really, really, really yummy - you can use any cheap red wine, and it should freeze well too.
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!

These threads may give you some ideas:

    Pears

    Can I freeze pears?

I'll add your thread to the first link later, once you've had some more replies.
