I had a load of free pears last year, some of them a bit hard and found info on here somewhere : poached them in sugered water and put in freeezer. We ate them throughout the winter and they were just like the tinned stuff. Can't remember how much suger etc but you should find it on here somewhere. Def worth doing.0

You could make them into a compote to have with breakfast throughout winter. Just freeze it in bags> Then when you want to defrost it, peel the bag off and allow to defrost in a tub suitable for the fridge (takeaway tub with lid is good)
To do this just peel and core the pears, chop into decent sized chunks and simmer in a pan with a little bit of water (not too much, as the pears will give up their liquid when they soften) and a bit of sugar. Add spices you think will work well, if you want. Cinnamon and pears works well, I think.
Use it on plain yoghurt, museli, porridge etc to add a fruity hit

Pear frangipane tart is my fave - I'll be making one this weekend
I use a Nigel Slater recipe from the Guardian. You should be able to find it online.

We were given a bag of pears yesterday that are rock hard. I'm trying a variation of Aunt Sally's apple cake with pear and chocolate chips. It's in the oven now so fingers crossedPiglet

Can any one help me with some ideas to use up a carrier bag full of pears that my allotment neighbour has given to me. The problem is my freezer is so full there is no way i can squeeze another single thing in.
So what on earth can i do with them...there are only so many pears that we and my DD's can eat0 -
