Well, a small change of plans - the dog is coming to stay with me tonight and for the part of tomorrow.
My friend who will take him on from tomorrow has got a few dogs at home now (she looks after people's dogs, dog waalks etc, she was heavily involved in rescue dog places back in Poland, rehoming, home checking etc etc).
She is taking my dog to hers overnigth as my Zara gets on fine with all other dogs and we do not want to put any of the dogs at risk by bringing a big, un-neutered male of uncertain character into the group.
So the big boy will stay with me tonight (got half of my bed ready for him) and tomorrow morning will take him for a long walk on his own across the road (Wanstead Flats) and then later to the park (Wanstead Park) to meet my friend with the rest of the dogs - to let them see each other on a neutral teritory first of all. I should not really be going out but....
From the park I am going to take my own dog back home and the rottie will go with my friend to her house with her dog.
Hope all goes well - we have a little community here of dog mad people who are happy to put a few pennies together each to get the dog neutered, vaccinated, flea/warm treated so that should not be an issue.
We will need a permanent home for him though at some stage - provided he is a good boy and his previous owners did not damage him below repair.
You see, I live in a flat and as much as I would love another dog - I am just not in a position to have one. Have some neighbours here that are completely unreasonable (do not like dogs as part of their "culture" have a problem with a dog on a communal staircase even... and it is a council place so I have to keep that in mind).
Oh, will post some photos of the big boy later on in the evening when he is here - it can go both ways.. he can be hapy to be indoors or he can feel completely lost.
Ah.... have to lock the cat away... Hmmmmm
Keep your fingers crossed for us please...0 -
Don't forget if he's been an outdoor dog then he might not be house trained... And with another dog in the house he MIGHT try to mark his territory... so just keep an eye out for thatDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
My DFW Diary - blah- mildly funny stuff about my journey0 -
My dog will not be here when the rottie arrives - my dog is going for a sleepover to her mate Lajka LOL They are both girls (mine is a long haired, black and tan GS and Layka is a short haired white GS but they are best mates and Zara likes to stay there sometimes).
As for house training - got laminate/tiles all over - and a mop ready
Will be going to pick him up around 8pm, should have some photo to post for all the supporters on here by maybe 10 pm... If you guys still awake by then0 -
I wouldn't let a strange dog of untested temprement sleep on the bed TBH - it is just too risky, he is nervous and has already nipped - if you startled him in the night he may understandably retaliate, especially after being used to being outside and 'on guard' all night. There was a dreadful case of a greyhound biting its owner on the face during the night - probably an instinctive reaction to something she did (like roll over) which in his sleeping state, he interpreted as a threat...
Good luck though! x0 -

Have to agree with FC but on grounds of the dog possibly being riddled with fleas. You don't want to wake up next to them, either. Good luck......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Oh - the dog will sleep wherever he choses to, no worries, I expect him to be terified to be honest. He lives with 3 guys now - his owner, his brother and father. May be a bit of a shick for him not to see a guy around, strange place, strange smells (my own dog and cat locked in one of the bedrooms), generally in the flat rather then outside. I do nto want to stress him any more than he is alredy stressed out.
Gor frontline ready for him too.
We leaving here about 8.30 pm, should be back about 9:30 - 10:00, will try to put a photo up, if he lets me to take one.....
Hope the owner has some food for him - would not like to cause him an upset stomach on his first day feeding him what I got at home.
He said he got a muzzle for the dog....not sure if this is good or bad to be honest. Will take him without anyway and see if we need one later on.
Thanks again everyone.0 -

I'd like to say well done too. It's so good you are willing to put yourself out to help the dog, dread to think what would have happened to it if you and your friend hadn't stepped in. Hope it goes well and looking forward to seeing the pictures.0
