Kirstie's HomeMade Christmas --- anyone else watching???

i agree that she should have left the 'bargain' 'hard times' bits out, but the 'homemade' ethos is a good one.
for those with lots and lots of money, who often seem to just spend for the sake of it, perhaps this will tell them that home made and re-purposed can be good and more personal. i wont be blowing a glass bauble, but for some it would be a better option than just throwing money at their house and loved ones.
so i sat there blanket stitching red and green felt stars for bunting and the tree and was quite contented in a happy, ever-so-slightly-smug way. :rotfl:Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!0 -
Okay, here's my top cheepo tip for Xmas decorations. Take any of the free shop Christmas catalogues, the brighter and sparklier the better. (M&S are good.) Slice up into 1" wide strips. I've got a paper guillotine, so this is easy. Give to the kids, with a glue stick each, and instruct them to make paper chains. Easy and dirt cheap. They even made me food themed ones for the kitchen from the M&S food catalogue last year.
The other classic favourites are paper snowflakes, paper bunting using zig-zag scissoers, Chinese Lanterns, paper trees, paper doll chains in the shape of santas, angels and snowmen, and these fold up zig zag paper spring things. Oh, and the paper birds with fold up wings that they showed you how to make on Blue Peter in about 1975. We make all of these but I usually have to buy at least glitter and some paper for these, so not entirely money saving.Val.0 -

I've never worked out how to make those paper doll chains - I end up with a pile of separate people :rotfl:
I don't remember the paper birds from Blue Peter - I don't suppose it will be on Youtube?0 -
To be fair it is 'homemade' ,not frugal or money saving.
I like watching but wish they would keep the 'bargain at half the price' comments out of it.
It is far more aimed at the budding interior design divas than at most folk I know.
The second hand shop was most definitely not a charity shop...
Have to agree with your points and what someone else said that we already do alot of moneysaving things so it was a show more aimed at those who have money but could cut down a bit rather than those who don't have any money at all.
Having said that l did really love it, and will definitely be watching the other two programmes. The wreaths were definitely money saving and most of us can get to a wood or a lane where we could 'half-inch' some
Its a bit mean to say Kirsty is 'spoiled' she may have a privileged background but she's hardly sat on her backside and lived off her parents - she does work!
Happy moneysaving all.0 -

I get my greenery from my £22 per year allotment. There's always plenty of ivy and stuff growing there and I suspect any neighbour with ivy would be more than pleased to let you have a few yards of it for the taking.Val.0 -
I guess it was an hour of vaguely entertaining programming, the problem is most of us on here are damn good at all this stuff and the rest are learning as they go along, so we need something a bit more lively.
Couldn't agree with you more we've all been there and done that, my Christmas tree is full of dec'sassorted some even made by me as a child as well as my DS1 and DS2, although the glass baubles were lovely I don't think I could ever bring myself to pay £10-£20:eek: for one!!!!!!0 -
I watched it too, and ended up picking it to bits too. I did kind of enjoy it, but I got fed up of seeing the same bits 'still to come', 'still to come', 'now it's happening', 'recap on what just happened'. I did find it all a bit expensive, it's all very well if you know someone who has all the stuff for you to blow the glass, or print cards, or make you a cake a month in advance... I didn't watch the homemade home series, but got the feeling that this was a repeat of it, as she kept saying she was going to the same places.
Also...has she had a baby this year? Her weight was either all over the place last night, or she was wearing some really unflattering clothes at times. I started to wonder if she'd had a baby earlier in the year, but to make it look as though it was all recently filmed she'd maybe dressed to hide her bump and didn't mention it so it all flowed together?0 -
LOl at everyone's comments - dd(13) has been inspired to make some saltdough decs with her 5yo nephew but was laughing at the "bargains". every time Kirsty told us that we could go on a course she piped up "course we can .... we do have two weeks after all!"I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080
