Today I purchased a Next gift card with my nectar points in a Sainsbury's store, I note that some stores have a gift card display, you can buy gift cards in various denominations for many stores including, Comet, B&Q, Amazon,Debehhams, House of Fraser.

The Arcadia card (Topshop, Miss Selfridge, Dorothy Perkins, Evans, Wallis,Topman and Burton) Nectar advertise on their site costing £22.00 in nectar points can be brought in a Sainsbury's store for £20.00 worth of nectar points!

You can also buy a card that works like a visa debit card with nectar points and use it to pay for anything online!

I theory you should be able spend your nectar points anywhere using this method.

I also like the idea of not redeeming the nectar pints at the check out on shopping, but purchasing a Sainsbury gift card for £10.00 say with 2000 nectar points one day, and using this card to pay towards the next shop earning points on this purchase in sainsburys.

Me and my other half have been saving up Nectar points for a while now and not spent any. Just wondering if people think this is the best thing to do with them? Am I right in thinking that if we spend them at the Sainsbury checkout then we won't get any points for that shopping visit? Thanks for any advice.

Probably, if you're saving up for something specific. My GF and I are doing this currently and have managed to get a couple thousand points in less than two months. We'll be getting discounted flights eventually...

  • Im not sure you could ask, I get nectar points every month when my pay my phone bill with talktalk, so it'd be great to know if I can get points from my utility bill with Scottish Power. I did get an offer through regarding points for signing up for british gas homecare packages, which I already have for my boiler, must phone and ask if this applies foe existing homecare customers xx

Last year I recall there being a 'sale' on the Nectar site where I think you got a 3rd off. Does anybody know if this is likely to be repeated??

I have been hoarding my points for sometime now and its about time I spent them

I've just discovered this discussion and realised I have missed out on loads of opportunities to get points and don't understand why you can't get them when you go direct to Amazon, Argos or whoever rather than going through the Nectar website.. Why don't the stores/websites themselves offer them to you? Surely that would help encourage people to use the scheme and therefore use the stores?

Apologies if this has been discussed before but I had been assuming that if the store, - online or high st, - was part of the scheme someone would ask for my number or card at checkout. It seems more like a secret society, you have to be in the know. The only place I have been asked for my card, other than Sainsbury's is BP. Why is this?

Just rediscovered my nectar card after registering with theAA (car breakdown service) and noticing it on the online form. Im so angry with myself as spent a small fortune at Ford's dealerships over the past few years (MOT, servicing, etc) and now realise could have got loads of nectar points. Guess there is no way these can be backdated. Was never asked for my nectar card and cant remember seeing any notices up

Tell me about it, I realised that Argos allocated points through the Nectar site as do AA like you say. Sent them an email having seemed to have missed out and was told there was no way back basically.
Very frustrating, won't happen again mind

I was wondering about this too - not sure if it was last year or the year before but there were 2 sales at different times of the year with things like cd's half the usual amount of points to get them etc. and lots of others.

Does anyone know if they still do these?
  • Set nectar as homepage. That way the next time you go shopping online just click the link to the shop you want to go to ie ebay, sainsburys, bodyshop etc. All the online shops are listed a-z so you never miss out on any points again!:j It also displays online shops points offers.:T Site also shows how to redeem points
