is it me or are nectar points pretty rubbish?

i have spent a year buying fuel at bp and sainsbury garages and have about 4000 points. it seems redeeming this as £20 at argos is the best option. £20 sounds so little for 4000!!! :)

If you had paid for that petrol using the Nectar Credit card you would have £65 now (assuming you spent at least £200 in first 3 months - £40 if you didn't).
  • You can now do a survey on flying and get 100 hundred points straight away
  • Today I purchased a Next gift card with my nectar points in a Sainsbury's store, I note that some stores have a gift card display, you can buy gift cards in various denominations for many stores including, Comet, B&Q, Amazon,Debehhams, House of Fraser.

The Arcadia card (Topshop, Miss Selfridge, Dorothy Perkins, Evans, Wallis,Topman and Burton) Nectar advertise on their site costing £22.00 in nectar points can be brought in a Sainsbury's store for £20.00 worth of nectar points!

You can also buy a card that works like a visa debit card with nectar points and use it to pay for anything online!

I theory you should be able spend your nectar points anywhere using this method.

I also like the idea of not redeeming the nectar pints at the check out on shopping, but purchasing a Sainsbury gift card for £10.00 say with 2000 nectar points one day, and using this card to pay towards the next shop earning points on this purchase in sainsburys.

I've just discovered this discussion and realised I have missed out on loads of opportunities to get points and don't understand why you can't get them when you go direct to Amazon, Argos or whoever rather than going through the Nectar website.. Why don't the stores/websites themselves offer them to you? Surely that would help encourage people to use the scheme and therefore use the stores?

Apologies if this has been discussed before but I had been assuming that if the store, - online or high st, - was part of the scheme someone would ask for my number or card at checkout. It seems more like a secret society, you have to be in the know. The only place I have been asked for my card, other than Sainsbury's is BP. Why is this?

  • If you go to the nectar homepage and login (if you have registered), scroll down on the home page and on your bottom left there is quick survey for 100points. Survey takes about 5 minutes on travel and airlines.

I always save my nectoar points and use them when I have loads. I was just reading about the Tesco Clubcard plus, do Sainsburys/Nectar do something similar in terms of doubling points?

Perhaps something to do with who runs Nectar, maybe its not in interest of some to promote Nectar as they end up footing bill, for others its a loyalty card. Only guessing that some brands get more out of it than others. I agree though be nice to be promoted to use cards on these sites which don't actively promote their usage.

Thank you for the info. about buying Sainsbury gift cards. I cashed in my points for my Christmas food shopping. Wished I'd thought of buying the gift card and then using it. I was a bit miffed that I lost out on the points for the Christmas shopping. Will get it right next year!!

But also, one free music download per day from 26th Dec - 6th Jan is advertised on the Nectar homepage, apparantly through Itunes. However it gives no more details so I'm not sure how I should go about claiming this deal. Any ideas?
