Asinity - Use your head and gut when you look at both in the Flesh, it's your cash after all.
The Archos is a good bit of Kit, has a big screen and more space.
The Touch is smaller, more user friendly (in my opinion, never liked Archos control layouts), has built in Blutooth 2 Headphone support(not sure about the Archos) and it is smaller to stick in your pocket.
When you do actually have to work is there any where safe to leave your device?

The mount is not required to use the GPS which is built in (although you'll need maps, a nav application or a tele-atlas subscription). In fairness however, you should point out that most of the accessories, add-ons and apps people have listed as iPod advantages are extra cost too. :think:

The Archos does have Bluetooth 2.

I agree that both should be viewed and held (and if possible, compared).

Yes my locker. To be fair accessories cost extra on the ipod too.

I never noticed the Archos now can be used as GPS independent of the mount, sorry I checked a poor source lol
I never mentioned apps in either case as they would be extra costs for both systems. Like wise other common accessories ie cases, mains chargers & improved headphones are extra cost.
I only said the docks were extra as after reading the OPs requirements would likely be surplus to use, maybe wrong though

I should point out that I don't have an Archos or an iPod Touch, but I have been seriously considering both - the Touch only since the 64GB came out (but I'd still prefer more storage or preferably, a card slot).

i have another advantage\limitation to an iPod of any style. Unless it is jail broken if any $^%$£%$ steals it unless they have an ounce of intelligence they can't simply rip off all your msuic, apps or vids. If they are intelligent they can.
The advantage/drawback of authorised computer support in iTunes.

OK just been to currys, bought the sansa clip which was 39.99 for the 8GB on from 2009 which has the option for expanding the memory with a SD card. Very happy, though they had it next to the 4GB one for 34.99 2GB one for 30.00. Why you'd pay 34.99 for 4GB when for 5 quid more you can get the 8GB one I dont know.

Anyone know where I can get my hands on the archos 5?? Comet and currys didn't have it in.

What part of the world are you in? Some Currys, Comet, PC Worlds, Argos, Hughes and a few M&S are listed as stockists. If you are near Edinburgh, Advancedmp3players have a place at Ocean Terminal.

QVC, for all the knocks they get, do sometimes sell it and have a no quibble try and return policy (but you have to pay delivery and they only have packages with the PVR bundled ATM which are quite expensive).
