Having invested in four of their offerings i wish i had not, they promised me a return on each investment
To paraphrase Oscar WildeTo lose one,two or even three investments may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose four looks like carelessness.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
A really interesting post. But I do need more help!
I have been approached to invest in "Wee Man" after having declined to invest in "A Lonely Place to Die". I am thinking of making an investment for my son, who is a real film buff. The proposition is very attractive what with visits to sets, the premiere etc.
The problem with this post is that it attracts either people interested in investing or those who have had their fingers burned.
What I really need to know is have any of you received any return on investment? Has your financial return been zero? Or have you received even a couple of quid? Have you actually been to the sets? Have you been to the premiere? halflight and heaven james - you may be happy but have you actually received any return?
The person on the phone from the Carnaby sales team, when asked by me "What has been the return on investment from your last 2 films", replied "5 times original investment"! True or False?
All the best0 -

Well i am the latest in quite a long list of disgruntled ' investors '. I first put £1000 into The Drop, a film which had quite a few names taking part and on the back of this film i also put money into Are you ready for love, which i actually thought was a good film altho' never released into the cinema, then there was The bridge of lies and finally The doghouse which was terrible film. I also put £1000 into Carnaby Media. I have been to all the Leicester Sq. premieres and looked around the set of Doghouse which was fascinating and we were also given a fine meal.
When you think back and realise the likes of Michael Madsen, Ed Byrne, Maureen Lipman, Danny Dyer and others have all been in the films, one can see how we have been taken in. Have these well well known actors also been taken for a ride.
So the bottom line is how much income have i received, Not a penny.
The likes of Simone ( seems a nice girl ) and John Congrave say the returns will come when all the outlets have finished ie. cinema, dvd sales/rental, TV, in flight and hotel movies, whenever that will be. I was told that investors voted at the agm to wait so the total income from each film could then be distributed to the unitholders. I am convinced some sort of action is necessary to get to the bottom of it all.0 -
Heaven James, How can you expect others to take you seriously when you can't even be bothered to check your atrocious spelling? In this day and age there is no excuse for such laziness. Well done for turning the "4 investment/2 investment" argument around so slickly. You were beginning to appear innumerate as well as illiterate. Now for your £120K: profligate or a Carnaby mate?
Contrast this suspect poster's contributions with those of andycucksey and Reaper. I've got several Carnaby "investments" too. Whereas 'Heaven James' would have a good point or two if Carnaby had EVER made money for investors, NONE of their ventures have, at least not over the last almost-decade. Of course, tomorrow's film MIGHT, and if not, the next MIGHT and so on. Meanwhile, look where the money goes. Get the accounts and read them. Once you understand that part of the 'administrative expenses' of each Carnaby film disaster go to another internal Carnaby company (in which shares are not available), you'll probably prefer to hang onto your cash. Sue if you've already lost it.
The company directors, Fred Wasson and Chris Hooper also do quite nicely meanwhile. An increasing number of Carnaby companies paying relatively small amounts adds up to an increasingly large amount. They also have chargeable expenses. They are in the habit of NOT going to Carnaby meetings because it's too far for them to travel. What with them being in America and extremely busy and there being nothing really to report at Carnaby meetings, this is quite understandable, however.
Heaven James cites the prospectus' disclosure of risks and so on. True. So why would he plump down £120K? More money than sense? I'd warrant most investors are sucked in on the £2-3K film punt, two or three times. No one receives a return. It's outside FSA. Put down to bad luck. Carnaby creates another company for each film and so the charade continues. Check out INTANDEM Films for an alternative and look at their figures.*
Coming back to "Spivs," where the production company was recently wound up, wouldn't "Spivs 2," a film about the Carnaby group, make a great filmplay?
CC
*I am not recommending this company nor do I hold shares. It's just that they are an independent competitor up against the same constraints as Carnaby but with a wholly different, and more transparent, business model.0 -
i' sure you dont really believe this have you read the previous posts . No No One has received return No no One has received evidence of any profit . You give carnaby money to invest and they pay director and secretary note one director and one secretary of the company so there are only the two the be paid from expenses. There are also two sets of shares in brackets as they are not really shares, classA who the directors get back first and class b who the rest of us are allowed the profits of , but there are no profits because we have to wait soo long and we cannot contack them to find out where it has all gone. They are obviously still going and these posts are gettingh more frequent. The authorities have been advised. but once again if youi want to go and see a film being produced and want to meet celebrities then invest three thousand pounds in a ticket to the cinema. as there is NO return no investment ,0

intresting you should say they are in america Wasson and Hooper were in florida with a couple of companies over there wchich were also dormant companies. They also knew each other before in America . before trying ntheir luck in London maybe there is no extadiction so live in London on expenses go back to Florida or Wyoming0

Just an update on "Heaven James."
Readers will remember that he wrote about investing in, "four projects." Later he mentioned only two films and was challenged by another poster. He backtracked and wrote about having '2 investments in 2 films = 4.'
You may recall that he wrote about going to AGMs. However, his name does not appear in the shareholder attendee lists of those I've trawled through. Did I miss something or was his name misspelt?
The accounts of most of the Carnaby companies recorded huge asset writedowns during 2009 (accounts published 2010). This 'impairment' wiped away any trading profits that might have been made. Some are being/to be liquidated with no returns expected.
With the same directors, same infrastructure, same marketing and same same, what hope is there of any of the new films such as 'Lonely Place to Die' and 'Wee Man' being any different?
Heaven (James) will tell?0
