I invested in Doghouse and was told about being an extra, visiting the set and attending the premiere for the movie, all of which never happened.

When I couldn't get any tax relief I called Carnaby and spoke to a rude and aggressive man by the name of John Congrave who glossed over the reasons why I couldn't get any tax back.

Also I was told that I couldn't sell the shares for 2 years.

I just spoke to them and a man by the name of Chris Page stated that I could not sell them as they are not listed on the exchange!

He kept on going on about EIS but would not return any money.

These scamsters are as bad as boiler rooms.

I have actually been trying to get more information out of carnaby. I invested in Are You Ready For Love and The Last Drop. Both genuine films, both made however absolutely no money coming back or details of when that will happen. Can other people post as well so its a bit more up to date. This post seems to have been running for about 4 years now !! Oh how I wish I had seen this 4 years ago....

I will also get onto Watchdog and my solicitor and see what we can do. Perhaps we can pool resources or something

How far have you got with this, i have invested and each time they managed to get money out of me by saying the previous investment was in profit and i should see a return by the end of that year.

Carnaby Productions Plc have sent a "striking off" form to me. Which is a notification that the company will be disolved and and assets go back to the crown (state) so there is no money left in this company, the one for Spivs. If you have had notification you can inform the company you do not want it to be struck off as creditors of the company. They seem to get investors who then have to wait 3 years , but evan then there is no return on the investment.
• I invested in Carnaby in The Last Drop. Their latest accounts received today show a turnover close to zero still but continued admin costs of a quarter of a million. This is surely not in accordance with the duties of a company director, you cannot watch over a massive expense every year with no income. I am taking advice but it will include action against the directors. There are many things in these yearly accounts that concern me. A large part of the "assets" are intellectual property rights god knows what they think they are worth if they can't sell the film. Money appears to have been loaned to other companies, a large debtor's debt is in doubt etc. As soon as revenue dried they should have closed the company.
• Good to find there's a forum about Carnaby. It deserves discussion. Whether a scam or a badly-run business, it's doing well for the insiders and badly for the investors. I first invested five years ago. On that and subsequent investments I've made no money and, it seems, have no hope of dividends or capital growth. Meanwhile the directors have grown a chain of companies with an income stream for themselves and four or five other key insiders.

An earlier poster mentions making a profit of £8500. Without giving us any details (nor replying to a subsequent challenge) I'd regard it as an abnormal and implausible transaction. Carnaby shares are unquoted and, if you read the accounts, are worth far less than par value.

"Carnaby" as a group establishes a new company for every film. With so many similar names it's confusing about which company holds which film. Could anyone help complete the table:

Carnaby Pictures - Last Drop
Carnaby Media - Various projects: ring tones, music catalogue, video
Carnaby Feature Films - Bridge of Lies aka Caught in the act
Carnaby Motion Pictures - Are you ready for love?
Carnaby International - Various: film back catalogue, joint ventures, residuals
Carnaby Film Productions - Doghouse
Carnaby International Films - The long weekend aka A lonely place to die
Carnaby Films - Film??? Recently gone into liquidation. Was this the 'Spivs' venture?

Their investment packages do, understandably, puff up the opportunities. My concerns are that the accounts are so poorly prepared, sparse on detail and inexcusably late they add to the sense that 'there's something not right.' Johnsons, the accountants, must share some of the responsibility.

I would urge readers of this forum to write to investigators such as Watchdog. Investors should write to Messrs Chris Hooper and Fred Wasson, the directors. They've not replied to my letters, except through others. Their replies were good but incomplete. More pressure from others might help. If it's a scam, it should be exposed. If it's a poorly-run business avoiding critical analysis by creating a pyramid of failed enterprises, it should be exposed. If the films are any good, then they should also get more exposure.

Tbh, I don't think writing in or calling in (as I did) would get anywhere. They will just gloss over the complaint by saying there is profit potential.

As others have stated on this site it's best if we complain to Watchdog and The Insolvency Service (How to Complain)

;)There is also Carnaby Productions And Management Services LTD which is a limited company and not a plc I do not know what the implications off this is. This was incorporated in Feb 2005 but has done nothing since. Does anyone know if Mr.F Wasson is still with the company? company number 05717447. I dont know the title of all the films and the companies but if you go by the date that the film came out
• Thank goodness I have found this thread. I have invested 4 times in this company (£2000) each time. Just like every other account I have been given no end of reassurances and promises but as yet not one penny has come my way. Those who are saying we all need to complain are right. At face value, these people seem to be doing everything right. Individual complaints will just seem like sour grapes because an investment has not worked out. We all understand it was a high risk investment but with time I think we have all come to realise that we have just been continously duped. Is there anyone who is willing to set up a group - as a group perhaps we can take these people on.
