You sound very understanding and reasonable Mr James, definitely more so than I would have been if I had just been attracted for the tax breaks and CGT deferral.
The CGT deferral was all that mattered to me having made some 320k which was due to be taxed at 40%/18% depending exactly on when I sold my BTL's. Back in 2005 I made a VCT investment for a much smaller amount and that has over the 5 years returned About Zero taking into account the dividends and 40% tax rebate on offer at the time.
I was working as a minicab driver in late 2007 and was driving either a director or owner of Carnaby to Pinewood Studios and we briefly discussed the benefits and risks of EIS. He was quite keen for me to invest with Carnaby and rang me a couple of times but luckily enough I went against the idea as in my opinion these EIS and VCT schemes are a huge risk (EIS probably more so).
I do wonder how many of the investors here were told about these substantial risks, not just in the small print at the back of a prospectus. Yes the warnings are there and maybe like most of us, they never read that far into the prospectus. It is just that I think there should be a big warning on the front page of the prospectus or letterheading that Carnaby send out.0 -
To reply to the quote from above
( remarkably relaxed about having just lost £120,000 and suspiciously willing to continue doing so despite that.)
My investments are in doghouse witch was picked up by Sony pictures witch was a very good film and has now just been released in America. my second Investment is in Lonely Place to Die directed by Julian Gilbey who directed Rise of The Foot Soldier witch was a carnaby film and has had huge success. Lonely place to die will be finished in Feb 2011.
So i have not lost my 120k only time will tell.
I would also like to reply to the point out that the risk factors

PAGE 2 OF THE PROSPECTUS
think that answer your question ROCKITUP
All the risks clearly outlined and not in small print

MR James
The prospectus went in the bin before I got to page 2, I did my own research before it arrived in the post. A better answer I think so no money lost.
I found this item below also about "Doghouse" WHICH didn't seem to get brilliant reviews. Your name does not appear on the credits either Mr James, didn't you take up Carnaby's offer of appearing on this film? Heard they pay about £70+ a day for extras there at Pinewood.
==================================================
The film received mixed reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes it has a 43% rating from 21 reviews counted.[3] Mark Adams from the Sunday Mirror described this film as "A nicely gory comedy-horror flick that is a diverting bit of lads' entertainment." Despite this review, some others did not, however, agree. Jason Solomans Observer called it " A dim zombie movie." Catherine Shoard of the Guardian wrote "... undeniable misogyny and a definite creative bankruptcy. So is it fun enough to compensate? Just about" and gave it a rating of 2 stars out of five. [4][5][6]
Michael Dwyer of the Irish Times gave it only 1 out of 5 stars.[7] Critics noted the films release closely followed after Lesbian Vampire Killers another 2009 British comedy horror film[7] and complained that ideas were borrowed from Shaun of the Dead.0 -
Reference to don't add up
I am sorry if i did not explain in detail about my investment so just to put you straight have 4 investments 2 in doghouse and 2 in lonely place to die.
REVEIWS ON DOGHOUSE
I am sure i could find very positive comments from the film and post them on here buts its all down to opinion.
will leave that to you to spend the rest of the day to keep looking for negativity to the films that we all have invested in
And while your doing that you might want to look into all the films carnaby have made and not one single film has been made at pinewood. So we will take your views with a pinch of salt from now on TAXI :T0 -
Well I wish you the best of luck. £120k is a lot to invest in a company with a 100% track record of losing investors money. You are a braver man than me.0

Where did I state that any Carnaby films were made at Pinewood???
My post stated that I drove the Carnaby guy down to Pinewood Studios. Not driving Taxi anymore either, retired at 48 after selling up.
Also am not being negative about the films, not even seen them. The reviewers posted their write-ups which I just happened to come across on Wiki.:T0 -
I managed to get conned by the very nice essex lady at Carnaby as well, luckily, for only £2000.00 in Bridge of Lies, they still try to get me to invest but after seeing the accounts never again, the money I invested was money I gained in refunded bank charges.
Whilst I support British films and some of their films are good, they are run by a bunch of real Essex spivs who will screw you for every penny, doubtfull you will see a genuine return, the stooges will pretend.
Another scam was to rent a shop on a major tourist run, hold a mock auction, say who will give me ten pound for whatever is on my mind, a stooge does. and gets a walkman, portable tv, and other goodies, of course the rest of the audience are now begging, pay and get handed a carrier bag with a dodgy ironing board cover in it. Not saying this lot are connected but they also came from Canvey Island.
I believe in Direct Action so next time they have a premier bash at rented premises in London if anybody wants to join a peacefull protest, to warn new investors, maybe with press involvement let me know.
As far as my loss I am considering flogging copies of my free DVD at car parks and Boot sales, in order to get my money back plus some interest, after all I am a shareholder and paid towards the costs.
Also as most of us were conned over the telephone were we offered a cooling off period, has anybody paid direct by card over the phone?
Revenge can be sweet..........0 -
Have got my court date against Carnaby next week so will keep you all posted. should be 'fun' as it is me (with no legal experience) versus a partner in a london law firm with 31 years experience - maybe it will be like the court scene in a Few Good Men...... "you can't handle the truth etc"
Also have looked through all the accounts of all the sub companies and it would appear they have raised c£22m from investors yet again from what I can ascertain do not seem to have paid £1 in dividends back to those investors by my reckoning that is not a 100/1 horse but a 22,0000,000 to nil bet - even the chances of winning the lottery are only c14,000,000.
I only invested £3,000, thank god it wasn't more - if I had invested £120k I would be distraught as based on evidence so far the chances of making a return seem to be very low.0 -
I think the problem is Carnaby's previous films have not made a profit and people are starting to think they are a dodgy company.
I'm confident 'A Lonely Place to Die' will prove us all wrong as it's due to land a very big distribution deal!0
