Yes they have had me for £3000 Last Drop and £2000 Are you ready for love. Still been trying for years to get me to put more in. No chance!0

I have invested £2000 with Carnaby this year for their latest feature film 'A Lonely Place to Die'. So far, I have nothing but good things to say about Carnaby. I got to visit the set in June and be an extra in the film which was a fantastic experience. They seem very professional when I get in contact with them and they were very helpful when I was having difficulty filling my EIS form in.
I had a phone call this week from them saying they are sending footage from the film on DVD which arrived today which was really unexpected.0 -
Make the most of it. The DVD is likely the only return you will get.
Most of us on here think £2000 is a bit excessive for a DVD - even if this thread does keep getting refreshed by people vainly trying to talk up the reputation of this particular company? If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I have just obtained copies of all their accounts via companies house and worked out that they have raised over £22m under their various guises and do not seem to have paid £1 out in dividends0

just wait till you try and get a return for your hard earned money!!0

Well done andycucksey, keep up the good work. I tried to interest Watchdog, but they haven't even had the courtesy to reply to my email....0

Having invested in four of their offerings i wish i had not, they promised me a return on each investment always stating spivs had broken even and was now in profit, then next thing the letter came through effectively saying the value of my spivs investment was 0. I cannot believe people are that driven by money that they are willing to lie, steal and con honest people out of their hard earned savings. Also how can people take jobs with these guys? Perhaps the acting unions should get written to by investors..... I fell sorry for older investors who may have lost all they invested; as at least i can put it down to a mistake, a hard lesson learned and work hard to recover my losses.0

My name is Mr James i have invested in four projects with carnaby films and i come across this forum today.
I felt the need to reply to all of the above and put a real and fair perspective about our investments.
There are some real valid points on here about carnaby with administration and the lack of info regarding the films that we are investors in. After talking to people at carnaby at a recent A G M these issues are to be addressed , IE website updated and more feed back on sales of the films we have invested in.
I have read all the comments and posts on this site and i think its about time to give every one a reality check here. We are all educated people and are responsible for our own decision we make in life.
we was all offered the opportunity to invest in a film and the document that we all requested and was sent to us, quite clearly outlined the risk factors of the investment. we have the benefit of the tax breaks and C G T deferral with in the investment. And All had the opportunity to show an IfA. But the main reason we invest into the film is we like the idea or the subject and we all take part in the creation of a British film.
The concept of the investment is very straightforward
1 carnaby raises finance
2 carnaby makes the film
3 The film is out on the open market to be sold
4 Profits from the film goes back to the investment that we took part in
That is how it works
Because the film we invested in has not done well or is a total flop we cannot now start to throw stones at carnaby and blame the company. What do you think we should ask carnaby to do , knock on every person door and drag them to the cinema and pay to watch it. Then stand outside HMV and make people buy the DVD.
Lets look it on a different slant we go to the race course we study the form we go with our instinct and our own judgement and we pick a horse. We then place a bet on the horse it is 100/1 complete outsider. we know its a very risky bet so we place a bet that we can afford to loose. The horse runs and we are supporting it all the way to the finish line if it wins we are jumping for joy. If it looses we throw our ticket away and we pick up the paper again and we look who is running in the next race.
What we do not do is because the horse we bet on did not win go around the back of the race course and blame the owner or the jockey.
Can every one on here see the point i am making we put our money into a film just like the bet at the race course.carnaby make the film and it goes out to be sold to the world (now the horse is running) fantastic if it wins disappointment if it looses.
The real madness that is on this forum is that we are throwing stones at glass windows from a far. when the windows we throw our stones at are the windows we own. MR James 120k investor0 -

Perhaps the central question is whether this is a real "investment" with the chance of reasonable return and if it is not, do Carnaby make that clear.0 -
I am only a spectator in this but your post makes me doubt whether you are a genuine investor or a company respresentative, heaven james.
I say that because you seem remarkably relaxed about having just lost £120,000 and suspiciously willing to continue doing so despite that.heaven_james wrote: »We then place a bet on the horse it is 100/1 complete outsider.
The comparison is only valid if you expect to get back 100 times your stake if a film does well, which does not sound very likely.heaven_james wrote: »The concept of the investment is very straightforward

I don't know the answer but to be reassured detailed accounts of the company and any parent companies need to be provided to investors so they can be sure it is all above board.0
