THIS IS WHATS BEING SAID ABOUT MY FILM I INVESTED IN HARDLY FRAUDSTERS.
JUst because a film gets a reasonable review doesn't make the company that produced it are a good investment. No-one seems to have had any money back from their investments; whether that is fraud, poor accounting or excess spending by Carnaby Films is debateable but the end result is still no return on any investments.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

I'd give this thread 5 stars for its entertainment value. What mystifies me however, is why no one appears to be aware of 'Hollywood Accounting'. I though that it was common knowledge that the typical film always manages to lose money as far as the investors are concerned. Typing 'Hollywood Accounting' into Google will being up a number of interesting reads, such as this one here - http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20100708/02510310122.shtml - which actually shows the statement from Warner Bros explaining how Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix managed to make a $167 million loss.

I don't imagine things are any different as far as Carnaby Pictures are concerned.
  • Wow, this is still ongoing! My 10cents worth, Invested £3000 (I think it was £3k, might be £2.5k), in Doghouse. This is coming up for its 3yrs investment time I believe. I expect the 'investment' is lost, and after the hundreth call from Simone some time ago I told her straight that until Doghouse pays me out some sort of money she'll not get another penny from me. She ended with her famous 'I'll place some shares on reserve cause I really don't want you to be missing out', she's persistent, I'll give her that.

Steve - £3k invested, Doghouse, no set visits, did get premiere tickets (but couldn't go), no payment (yet).

  • Carnaby's latest film 'A Lonely Place to Die' has won the awards of Best Film and Best Director at the ActionFest film festival in the USA.

It has also been chosen to close the Film4 FrightFest festival in London this Summer.

It is due to go on general release in the UK 9 September 2011.

The latest review is on the aintitcool.com website.

This is the third film I have invested in; Carnaby have been honing their skills with each successive film and I think they have now found their feet with this gem.

Thought this might be of interest to this thread.....

    Cheers.

Have you got any money back from any of your investments?

I FEEL THAT SOME ONE HAS TO MAKE A STAND AMONGST THE PACK OF WOLVES ABOVE THAT LIKE TO THROW STONES AT GLASS WINDOWS HIDING BEHIND THERE TREES.

This is without doubt one of the funniest things I have read on MSE. It's like an explosion in a metaphor factory.
