My Interest Paying Current A/c is now fully open, Scottish Branch etc..

I sent off the form to switch DD/SOs with my original application but selected the option for them to do it all automatically as there's only 1 DD on the account I'm "switching" from.

Will see how "automatic" the process turns out to be :p

  • I am in the process of applying for the interest paying current account in order to get the free £100. The advisor told me that you have to CLOSE DOWN your old account in order to qualify for the £100. It would seem that it is not just a case of transferring your salary. You actually have to close down your old account.

I would like to know why you have to chose a Scottish branch of RBS. Are we to assume they are short of customers or could there be a hidden agenda.
Perhaps RBS are beefing up the customer numbers to make them more attractive to a bidder.

I too only wish to switch DD/SO ,NOT my whole account.

The application process asks if you want to switch your account. I ignored this option but chickened out just before final stage as I wasn't given the option to use the switching service.

If someone who has received the application forms in the post could confirm that the DD/SO switching option is available at that stage, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks

Received the pack yesterday, like you I didn't tick the switch account option because I only wanted to switch DD/SO, and there's nothing in the pack for switching. So I shredded the forms and not going to bother with it.

same situation - just want to move DD/SOs. Phoned RBS who said that I have to close my old account and it's not possible to just move DDs etc.
I didn't tick the account switching box on my application, but have been told I can go into a branch and pick up this form.
I don't like to give up on free money, so I'll visit my local branch tomorrow and establish exactly what I can/can't do.
Has anyone been successful with the just swapping DDs approach yet ?

They have no right to ask you to close down your old account and is not part of the terms and conditions (see below):

"Terms and conditions of £100 offer
This offer is only available in Scotland. To benefit from the cash incentive, you will need to have your new current account based at a branch in Scotland.
Only available to new current account customers opening an Interest Paying Current Account, R21 Account, Royalties, Royalties Gold or Royalties Premier account between 1 May and 9 July 2006 who use it as a main account (as defined below).
In order to qualify as a main account, you must use the Royal Bank’s centralised Account Switching Service to transfer Direct Debits and Standing Orders from your existing account elsewhere and/or mandate your salary/pension to the account."
Not available to existing Royal Bank of Scotland plc current account holders.
Only one offer (cash incentive) per new account.
We will pay £100 into your new account within 28 days of the switching process being completed – you will receive a letter confirming when the switching process is complete.
All account openings are subject to acceptance.
You will lose the right to benefit from the offer if we deem that your account has not been opened or used in accordance with the terms and conditions above.
This offer is subject to change and may be withdrawn at any time.
The offer is not open to employees of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group of companies.

If they ask you to do that, I suggest you ask them for a copy of the terms and conditions which state that.
  • I currently hold a Interest paying current account with the RBS, Would I be able to apply for the R21 Account and be able to get the £100 if direct debits are switched etc.

RBS Group are the UK's No. 2 bank and number 5 in the world. I don't think anyone would be allowed to buy them even if they were up for sale.

Some of the companies they own: Natwest, Direct Line, Lonbard, Mint, One Account, Coutts, First Active, ....

I was told accepted in principle, but I've got a rubbish credit record, so probabaly won't be accepted in the end. Didn't offer me any choices about switching DD's but if I am successful, I'll set up a transfer from my Abbey a/c and then switch a couple of DD's which come out a few days later for a couple of months.
