Hey walnut whipp, did you apply on line? And did you get to choose a scottish branch? I abandoned my application halfway through as I wasn't sure about the branch to choose.
It is unwise to pay too much but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, all you lose is a little money... that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot...it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better (John Ruskin - 19 ctry author, art critic & social reformer)

Ah but you did though didn't you Martin! I hope those costly mistakes don't happen.

You can choose a Scottish *coughs* branch during the application process, I opened this account a few weeks ago....yet to get the £100 though.

Looks good but I think I'll wait until payday before I change the account my salary is paid into. Just a couple of questions though: Do RBS inform my employer of my bank details and they switch it over? Once that happens and the money is in my account, do I have to ask my employer to change it back?

Pound, I was wondering the same as you although it shouldn't make any difference to me as I am the boss and pay the wages!!

Just how do they go about transferring over a wage?? Anyone know??
Has anyone actually completed the process??

Sorry to go on but I have never done this before and I don't want to ditch my current bank. The nearest I have come to this was when i transferred an isa.

I applied a couple of weeks ago for the Current Account, only because I wanted to scoop the £100.
I sent off Bank Statements, had them back. Received a cheque book and a few days later a Bank card. I've set up the on-line banking and can access the account.
However, no credits/ Direct Debits have yet been applied to the account. I've no idea when the account will become 'active' as far as RBS are concerned and for them to release the £100 onto the account. Somewhere, I think I've read, within 28 days of the account being opened.
I'm eagerly waiting, but then my middle name is Ever Hopeful!

    hjb,

I put it in the Quick Chat Tips section, with a warning it was very tricky, rather than writing a full note much higher up the tip. This tends to target more experienced MoneySavers, rather than the dip in and out'ers

Is the £100 bonus payable on the R21 account too? It is listed as one of their "select" accounts but it's not mentioned as an option in this thread.

Some posters above talk of closing their present current a/c?? Do you have to close your present account? Can't you just keep it open, change your salary payment so it goes into RBS instead of your present current a/c, scoop the £100 then transfer your salary by standing order each month back to your present current a/c from RBS each month.
    OR
does the RBS account switching service automatically close the a/c they switch the salary (or direct debits) from?
