RBS £100 Current Account Bonus – Ends 9th July

  • opened my account with RBS last month and noticed that it was over the 28 days since everything was switched over and more than 28 days since my first direct debit was paid out.
called my branch to enquire about my £100 and was advised that they will look into it. called me back pretty quickly but only to advise me that i didn't qualify for the offer as i already have a rbs account which pays interest.
i am fuming as i called the application telephone line prior to joining to check and see if i would qualify for offer as i have a joint account with my girlfriend that we use to pay our mortgage and bills from but it is not my main current account. salary doesn't go into it and i don't even use it other than to pay bills for the house.
i was advised by phone that i would still qualify for offer as long as i was transferring my main current account from another bank and pay my salary into it and direct debits from the account. i didn't think to get a name as i didn't foresee a problem.

i had a funny feeling this was going to happen after seeing this forum. needless to say i explained this and lady is away to check with her manager again but unsurprisingly this is taking much longer than the original enquiry which they replied to pretty quickly because they were telling me i wasn't getting the money.
on reading the terms and conditions it is a grey area and i don't have the name of the person who confirmed i qualified.
think a call to the complaints line now will be in order and then probably looking for a new current account if they don't come through with the money.

can't be bothered with the hassle of switiching again and this is probably what the RBS are banking on.

28 days is up today, and nothing showing

I'm going to have to ring them

I wonder how many people have been fobbed off on this one - if there's a few, is it one that Martin get take up on behalf of us consumers??

I do have mine but it looks like it was added by hand from my branch after my complaining (repeatedly).
In any case I'm swapping to FD...

    Good news!

I rang customer services and explained that I hadn't used the switching service because the account I was coming from was a joint account and my husband was still using it. She said she didn't think I qualified but would find out and ring me back.

She rang back within the hour :T and confirmed I qualified :T and it would be added to my account :T :T :T and should update overnight!! :D

Its now been more than 28 days since I switched to RBS, I only moved over my salary - no sign of a payment yet. I'll give them a call and see how I get on.

Just read the T&C before I phoned and it says "28 days from the switching process being completed." how do I know when the switch is completed?

The account transfer team will send you a letter advising the switchover date once everything has been set up.

Has anyone successfully received the £100 by not fully switching, ie closing their existing account? I want to just transfer 5 direct debits across to them.

I have my account opened and my paperwork and cash card. I just phoned up and asked about the direct debiting and the £100 and she said that you need to get a switching form from your local branch.

But I don't want to switch the whole thing. I am waiting till next week before going for the Alliance and Leicester £50 offer instead.

phil7445 - don't worry. On the switching form you can specify exactly what you want switching, you don't have to switch everything just because you fill the form in.
