    Hi

In your experience what proportion of reps sign up but then never really get going and are effectively money down the toilet.
I started being a Sales Leader last year and so far I've had 3 that decided it is not for them and did not place any orders and 3 that got refused by AVON and I've had 3 that only lasted a few campaigns.

So you have had 9 that didn't pan out. Would you mind giving a rough indication of how many did pan out just so that I can do the math of how many I would need to respond to an advert to realistically convert into long term reps and therefore cover the cost of advertising. Thanks again.

Thanks for all the responses and advice.

I agree about being a rep for a while so that you can learn about the 'hiccups' and how to resolve them. What I am trying to do at the mo is capture, whilst it is still fresh, what things need to be done, in what order, etc so that I can pass on my learnings to my recruits. I think if I leave it until I become an SL I may take forgranted some of the things I have learnt along the way.

However when I spot an opportunity for potentially recruiting reps my brain won't shut up and move on until I have looked into and evaluated it. Otherwise it goes round in circles wondering what if...

Learn first, recruit later.... No substitute for personal experience and whilst we all come across a lot of the same problems, it could be that you (and your eventual team) will have slightly different ones. It's hardly going to encourage your team members if every time they come up against a problem you say.... Err, not sure about that.....

Walk before you run; if you recruit too early then you risk falling at the first hurdle because you need to have the knowledge and ability to support anyone you do recruit. (Only my opinion, of course.)

Empathise though if you are mentally alert for searching out new recruits. In my early campaigns if I came across anyone remotely interested in being a rep I either asked them to hang on a while or passed their details to my own SL.

Noglet, really think you're wasting your time 'doing all the figures'..... What says you need to advertise anyway? In the early stages, surely it's better to recruit from personal knowledge i.e. how on earth would you cope if you got a great response from an advert anyway? Unless you have firm knowledge/a firm foundation to build on then the likelihood is that your team would fall like a pack of cards...... Sorry, but learning from the bottom up really is the best way. Only then can you appreciate what's involved at the grass roots level.

well i had done avon for about 9 months and my upline asked if i was interested a few months ago. i said i didnt feel ready.

january came and avon sent me a letter saying that someone in the area was interested in seeing a brochure so i contacted her and it turned out that she wanted to be a rep.

then i asked on facebook (my friends) if anyone was interested and a close friend said yes. so i contacted my upline again and signed up the first two two days later.

i then signed my other half and set up a facebook group asking for leads (none yet)

my upline said she had someone who was interested in my area so signed her, then my OHs sister who is saving for her wedding

and then today was a random woman at a bus stop after knocking on doors for an hour, just about to give up and thought might as well ask.

    so...in answer to your question...its 50 50 literally.

if it wasnt for the first two i wouldnt have tried. but one of my targets for 2010 is to be a sales leader. just didnt think i would do it by feb! lol

didnt want to turn down an opportunity though.

  • Am with you sophisoph  A couple of months ago I was approached by someone wanting to be a rep so it got me thinking. I've been putting feelers out ever since and hopefully tomorrow will be signing 4 (all coming to me) + my OH. Didn't want to be under pressure looking for new recruits to meet any targets. Will get them settled in and then, maybe, look for more. Pretty sure, given sufficient support, that one will fly - the others are not actually on the Net but am going to encourage them to input their orders at the library rather than commit orders to the post. Time will tell but wouldn't want the 'headache' of trying to cope with any more at the mo i.e. as well as looking after my customers too.

noglet, you don't have to pay for expensive advertising, ie in newspapers.

I advertise in Tesco Express stores where it is free, expired book drop with leaflets looking for new reps. Last week I was in the town centre, doing a "swoop" where you stop people walking past, and we had free lipstick samples to give away, and managed to get 2 to sign up. The average sign up through these "swoops" is 2 depending how many of you are out there, there were 5 of us.

Postcards in newsagents can range from 50p to £1.50.
  • Mornin all!

My daughter works in a big office. She's very keen to help my sales! Her latest idea is to have a big Avon Hamper worth £50 and raffle it. Any profit over the £50 goes to the official company charity cause. I would make no money on this but it would count towards MOV. She thinks if I had some samples and products I would get some sales and orders if I went in and sat on the 'raffle table'. Any ideas for how to fill the hamper (thought maybe the bonus bag for £50 with a brochure highlighting current values ie £150 so they can see themselves). Poss doing a mans hamper too. Which samples would be best? Do I take orders or have some prebought ie take a mega impact (maybe rosy) and take 5 or so with me using one as a tester? Really not sure.
Any help would be really appreciated! x

The stuff that I think would be suitable is The Range's own white card. It soaks up my watercolour pens, so I'm figuring it should soak up the perfume/EDT.

Thanks bexr - I've got some from The Works for 99p so will see how that goes. Hadn't thought about The Range - totally forgot they do loads of craft stuff!!
