Surely it's TalkTalk who have a nerve for only accepting customers with a working BT line. Why don't TalkTalk provide customers with new lines? Their is no reason that they can't if they wanted to, but it's not cost effective for them to do so when they can get their [strike]customers[/strike] mugs to do it for them! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

From 2 years ago exactly the same thing and the reason why BT introduced higher exit fees and longer contracts http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=3436675&postcount=188
I guess "Talktalk say i have to get a 3 month contract with BT and then cancel it..." says it all.“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0 -
I'm not sure about that. I will ask some friends.0

I'm not sure about that. I will ask some friends.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

BT Openreach came round yesterday to put my new line in, apparently BT are now charging all customers £124.99 whether they just need to be reconnected or a whole new line... so basically he was saying that if I moved, the person who moved into my flat would still pay that fee, and I would need to pay it again in a new place.
Not sure how they can do this, but he was quite insistant that this was now the case...0 -
Does anyone know if there is anybody else who can connect a phone line other than BT. Unfortunately this is the second time i am moving in to a 'NEW BUILD' house within a year and a half. When i moved in to here i had to pay £75 connection fee, now i have just found out that it has been increased to £125. A whopping £50 increase. How wrong is that!! Last time they came out it took 5 mins. How can they justify all that money?
I can understand that some charge is due for a line into a new build but I have just been charged £125 for connection to a property that already had a BT line.
I had contacted BT, prior to moving, and asked to retain the line, still got charged.
Currently in dispute, as they stopped the money from my direct debit and put me in the red! (now onto bank charges-only joking).
By the way if anyone is paying BT for "caller display" at £1.75p/m they also offer it FREE under their "BT privacy at home" policy.0 -

If the line was connected as in full dial tone & then no charge will apply.
If the line required work at the exchange and/or property then a charge will be required.
Best to get some clarification on what work was carried out, if any.0 -
I understand primus could do that for you
I think i am right in saying they do a new line install for only £99.00
and with that you will get the saver 20 -
