Hi all,

Thought I'd let you all know... I have sky tv but Virgin broadband & phone. I too contacted BT for the phone line to be reconnected but was informed that the line hadn't been used for a while & they'd need to send an engineer which would be £125 :mad:
I went to skys website & used the interactive option where I spoke to an advisor online. They initially said they would refund the fee if I took out the broadband, then backtracked when I informed them I had sky tv (new customer ploy). I phoned sky customer service on 0870 or 0844 & was told outright no. So I then contacted sky on a uk number & informed them that I had spoken to someone already & they would refund & I wanted to confirm. They took a few details (name, address, sky account password) & they're sending me a form to get a refund! Currently been on hold with BT for 20 mins though trying to switch to them!!!

So... if you already have sky or thinking of going to them, phone them & get a refund! The refund will be on your sky account so free sky for a while & choose to pay BT fee over 6 months with what your not paying on sky.

I’m moving home and the new property has never had a phone line (quite bizarre as it’s an old house). MY first attempt I got quoted the £125, I wasn’t impressed since I had to pay that to get the line installed in my current house.

After searching on this forum I found http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=878915 so I rang back quite the above offer, even giving the very helpful lady the full url to the PDF file. She was great about it all and said since it was on their website she had to give me the offer.

They are going to charge me the full £125 but a credit for £95 will appear on the same bill, so all in all, result!

I've gone with PlusNet, £105... got quite a good offer with line rental and broadband, plus my landlord is paying so I'm not complaining.

so i reckon wen i move into an house with a bt wall socket that has been installed for over 7 years i wont have to pay nothin i`ll let ya`s know wen i phone em l8r

Im lead to beleive these are the charges of bt openreach the peeps that mess with the switch`s

As it clearly states the connection charge will be raised if "changes are needed to wiring inside or outside the home or work at the exchange to reconnect to BT."

So if the line has been disconnected at any point expect to be charged.

A wall socket does not mean the line is active. If its been there for over 7 years it'd be safe to say that its an inactive line at the exchange

ok guys phoned bt and asked if there was an active line at the address was advised yes and it wouldn`t cost me a penny to get connected no questions asked so i dont know if i was just lucky . But i didn`t need to argue wiv em ??:T

IMHO BT have a nerve for trying to make you feel guilty about transferring to another supplier immediatley after connecting (and bully you in to staying with a big cancellation fee) They harp on about service levels and quality of support and service, HA! My experience with BT was disgraceful. In stark contrast to my slick (albeit "electronic") experience with talk talk.

it would require a novel to fully list the hassles I have had, including connecting next door instead of my Mom (neighbor is still connected and now receiving "free" calls) call centers where they had such strong accents that I simply could not understand and being passed to 8 thats EIGHT different people in ONE call during an attempt to sort out the confusion, which was unsuccessful anyway! Talk Talks (South African I think) helpline was fine BTW!
