lol seams a lot of people are picking on home owners what about those who are RENTERS especially from the council which is what i am being faced with. i don't see why a renter should fork out for this, especially those on benefits who are struggling more than most.

People should not forget the ridiculous £4.50 charge for not paying by direct debit. BT make their money very easily and very quickly. especially when you need to have a bt line to get another service such as internet from a none cable company. which is what i have to do i struggle but i am glad i do have internet at the moment.

Completely agree with this... I am only signing a 6 month tenancy, the landlord could serve me notice after 4 which means I would have paid £125 for what?!! And possibly have to pay it all over again for a new place...

I still haven't worked out what to do, mobile broadband is rubbish, that's going back this week... I'm now considering getting Sky as someone mentioned they might refund the connection charge... can anyone confirm that?

Welcome to the MSE forums viz.

Beware, just because it wasn't mentioned doesn't mean the requirement is not one to which you are bound.
    2. Customers must make at least 30 chargeable or inclusive calls every three month period or 10 chargeable calls or inclusive calls per month if you are billed monthly.

Can we still sign up to Primus during this minimum contract period? i.e. use a CPS provider? 10 BT calls per month is not a problem if we use them at weekends.

Yes you can sign up to Primus or any other CPS Provider as soon as you like.(Takes about 14 working days to set up).

You can also use the likes of www.18185.co.uk as soon as you register with them.

I phoned Sky yesterday (28/05/08) and they confirmed that they would refund the connection fee (up to £125) as long as you take out a sky deal, alert them to your situation, then connect to BT. I think if you pay for BT first you will struggle to get sky to refund you.

I am moving to a house with an active phone line but BT are still trying to charge £125 for set up as the line is not currently with BT. If this is the case is there an easy way to find out who currently controls the line and can I just take out a contract with them rather than moving the line to BT?

Beware though - don't then hand over your line rental to Sky because that will involve you breaching your 12 month contract with BT and incurring a £70 fee for doing so.

From what I understand, if you want sky phone package you have to keep paying BT line rental anyway. As such I dont see that you would be terminating the contract early. I might be wrong.
